185 with a 3106 deck- Does anybody have any tips on how to get the separator disc (the thin plate with the four prongs to align with the shaft grooves) onto the shaft? I’ve tried everything short of a bearing press to get the disc onto the shaft, but all I’ve accomplished so far is to put a hairline crack on the needle bearing end of the shaft.
Second question- are the wavy springs stacked to nestle together, or should they be ‘opposite’ each other?

Re: Pto clutch
You need to assemble it EXACTLY like the picture on the service paper that came with the kit or it will NOT work! These are a PITA to get together, and yes they must be compressed just a tad! Dont overdue it or you will destroy everything. I have a paper and instructions around here some where but cant find it right now.
I did one years ago and will NEVER take another one apart again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The wavy washers must face a certain way and be in the right place. I cant remember exactly how it all went without my paper, even with it , the job was a PITA!

Re: Pto clutch
I rebuilt this one a few years ago and remembered that it wasn’t easy, but I figured if I had already done it once, it should go easier the second time. Hasn’t turned out to be the case, and I don’t recall these discs being so hard to get on.

Re: Pto clutch
Ya! They only go a certain way and I still cant find the papers that came with mine! I know I followed it to the letter, BUT had to take it apart and put one more shim in it THEN it was a bear to compress. Took 2 of us to get it finally.
