John *.?-!.* cub owner wrote:I have heard of the input shafts on standard cubs breaking before, though it is uncommon. All the ones I have heard of broke just inside the bearing so the shaft stayed in place, but nothing in the tranny moved.

The only way for this drive shaft could fracture is it bowed under pressure. She broke flush with the bearing. But the outside fracture happened first. She ran on the inside part of the shaft till it broke.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

I am talking PTO not drive line

with john's input about the 3600 rpm V twin I am looking at any were from 4-1 or 5-1 ratio motor to drive line
were talking a 12'' shive or a doubble reduction belt system [ and that only gets it down to 900 rpm]
12'' shive only gives me 3-4'' ground clearance between the two [kinda tight]

I believe outdoors4ever was responding to John *.?-!.* cub owner 's post and the 3600 rpm vs 1800 rpm for the driveline.

I made a 1 cylinder cub years ago by putting a 11 hp Harbor Freight engine in place of a FCUB engine. I wanted to use the original clutch and keep the torque and speed the same so I did run the output of the engine through a 2:1 jackshaft.

You could probably change out the pulleys and belts in the PTO to get a different ratio.
