Electrolysis, Antique Implement Seats

Visiting daughter purchased an antique implement seat with spring. Told daughter that I would use electrolysis to remove the rust.

Set up the electrolysis tank, purchased the washing soda, separated the seat from the spring. Started the process. Then son brings in another implement seat with spring that he had purchased some time back.

Told son and daughter that they didn't need to purchase implement seats, I am parting out a WD Allis with the metal pan seat that they could have.

After a discussion, son and daughter decided to use metal implement wheels for the base. There went the steel wheels off of an old John Deere trailer plow that I was saving for parts.

Got the seats and parts electrolysis cleaned, rust stopper and then clear coated.

I started the electrolysis with one of the old 6/12 volt battery chargers. After a bit I hook up one of the computer controlled battery chargers to the tank in conjunction with the old styled charger. Worked great with both chargers connected.

I have used it in the past for some cast iron Dutch Oven that the PO took on a camping trip. They set it on the patio and forgot about it for a couple of years. Since they knew I loved to camp & cook they brought a DO, Grill, and a skillet to me. 36 hours later, I had a nice set of cast iron.

Yep, I got educated by Tom (Our Pass Thyme) and I have used it alot. Works especially well with all the fittings on cultivators and sweeps/shovels.
