Quarantined Christmas

Postby Lt.Mike » Sun Dec 26, 2021 3:28 pm

Hope everyone had a great Christmas!
I mean that :) just throwing out there ours didn’t go quite as planned.
Been thru the ringer and with all the unknowns which fortunately was the worst part we’re good and thankful.
With that said I’ll say ours could’ve been better but certainly a lot worse.
Tuesday I came down ill, Wednesday felt like I was hit by a bus and Thursday tested positive for Covid.
Paula showed mild symptoms during this time but though she tested negative at first today she tested positive. I think we knew it anyway. She’s been on the mend too feeling better yesterday and today so were clearly on the other side of it.
We’re retired so we stayed away from crowds, didn’t go out much, wore a mask when we did have our vaccines... still happened. I suppose the vaccines did spare us from more serious medical issues though and that’s good.
I’ve run thru everything we’ve done in recent days and can’t think of anyway we could have played it safer.
Bright side is we’re feeling better everyday since so we’re good but it sure rained on our Christmas plans.
Not going to cry about it because I’ve lost friends to this so I’m thankful all this has amounted to for us is a huge inconvenience. All things considered I’ll take this.
Timing stinks though being quarantined for Christmas.
Looking forward to a better new year.

Thanks for sharing, Mike. Glad to hear you both are doing OK. We had to call off gathering at my unvaccinated mom's today as she tested positive this AM. I'm pretty worried about that.

Hi Mike, sorry to hear that you and Paula contracted the dreaded Covid19. Glad to hear you guys are both on the way to full health again. You were unlucky in that after being very careful and did everything right you still got it. But on the other hand the fact that you guys were wise enough to be vaccinated it didn’t affect you as severely as it might have. Well done on that. The Omicron virus is running amok this side of the pond. Stay safe

Nobody really knows anything with any certainty on this but it seems that the virus is weakening as it mutates. This has stayed mostly to our sinuses and out of our lungs which the first variant did and that’s what caused so many people trouble.
There’s congestion, headache, ear and mouth pain, tiredness, mild fever, ...
Seems like so many people are hellbent to get on with their lives and live like this thing isn’t out there so I doubt they’ll ever be able to prevent it’s spread. I just hope there’s truth to the theory that as it mutates it gets weaker and weaker.
Urbish our prayers will be for your Mom. Hopefully she’ll be able to get thru the worst of it in a few days. It’s seemed like the worst of what we felt was for about 4-6 days and now it’s just hanging on enough to let us know we’re not entirely well yet. Going to be about 2 weeks I think.
Like I said, could be a lot worse.

It’s been a few weeks now and though I’m feeling fortunate I didn’t get hospitalized I’m thinking if I wasn’t inoculated I might have been.
While the rest of my family are over it and while I’m technically past Covid itself I’ve been diagnosed with “Covid long hauler”.
Elevated BP, fluid in my ear canals so ringing in my ears, heat racing, bronchitis and short on breath. I’ll go from feeling fine to start getting stuff done and getting totally out of breath.
So now I’ve got an inhaler, took a course of antibiotics and have BP meds. Covid, the gift that keeps on giving. :(
You know we were all most worried about Paula being diabetic but she caught it after me and was up and around before any of us. Go figure, but all things considered I’d rather have it this way.
Damn glad I have the tractors to plow with because there’s no way I could shovel or even wrestle a snowblower.
