Fertilizer prices

Postby Slim140 » Mon Feb 14, 2022 7:23 am

Triple 17 fertilizer is right at a $1,000 a ton now, $25 a bag

I don't see how people will afford it to plant crops then it will be passed along to the consumer. Where will it stop????

What's even scarier than the price is the question of availability. Same goes for chemicals. Talking to my dad last week, it was uncertain they would be able to purchase enough nitrogen for the wheat crop. They were able to get enough, at over 2x the price as it was last summer. Jury's still out on materials for the spring.

A lot of guys are already spreading poultry litter here.

The Weaver plant fire in Winston a couple weeks ago isn't going to help anything either.

Local farmers use to do that. They lost their turkey growing contracts over a year ago.

New normal. Current inflation is going to have a long lasting impact on the economy even if it returns to around 2.6% per year.

Wages will not be going down even if the other problems affecting the economy do.

Starting wage is $21.- per hour, this is mid-Missouri, at son's place of employment, and they can't get or keep help.
I have an excuse. CRS.

A friend of mine, his family owns a well known trailer business here in N.C. and I talked to him the other day. He said they can't find welders, they just need people who can lay beads. They have 4 assembly lines and can only run 2. He said they have a back log of 500 trailers to build and are quoting people 10 months out.

I've been the only one out here in the shop 9 weeks today, the other guy who works out here is out with foot problems and we can't find anyone who can run a lathe.
