New House!

Postby farmallcubkid » Thu Feb 09, 2023 9:52 pm

We just moved in a new house and we have framed it, sided it, put in windows and doors and we are working on the electrical. Hope to be in it by May! It is a big two story house, really nice. It has to be big to fit my 4 brothers and parents! It will be really nice to have a basement during tornado season. Really exited to move in!

I hope you all have a nice weekend.

Congratulations.

Son and I purchased a fixer upper. We went all electric. Installed heat pump, heat & a/c, and a heat pump water heater. Also looking at a heat pump clothes dryer. Reason is the trend for USA to go electric. So far the electricty cost has been a bit cheaper than propane.

Actually is was less expensive to go all electric than to do new construction on the house to install propane appliances.

We have and are doing all the work ourselves except for installing the heat, a/c.

Any way. The more work you can do yourselves, the less the out of pocket costs.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Your house sounds nice! I think our house is going to have propane heating. It will be nice during no power because their is a separate connection for our heater. We have a under ground garage and heated flooring to.

Hard to believe places in this country are still without natural gas.

Even harder to believe people out there build homes without basements!

Heres to lots of wonderful years in your new home young man!

You still need electricity, a generator set, to operate the heating system during power outages.

Natural gas, yes there are locations without natural gas, the town of Linn, Mo. is one, as well as most farms. I don't know why no natural gas. The pipe line is located a bit north of town.

Many areas of this country are not served by natural gas. Even ones where gas is extracted.

Really, natural gas is much like electric power was 100 years ago. Those of us, in rural areas, only got electric service when the citizens formed the Co-op network. I’d be nice to have natural gas but I guess I never will.

I have an 8 inch, high pressure gas line running through the yard at the farmhouse, and several production wells within miles of the property. No natural gas in the house.

You need a saddle, a high pressure regulator to get it to 10psi, some plastic tubing, then (maybe a water separator) and then a the standard "at the house" regulator to get it to the normal home pressure.

Plus a few pipes, fittings, etc. and a bit of trenchin.

;)

It seems as if Ohio is divided right down the middle along 71 or 77.
With all the gas wells and infrastructure on the eastern side.

In my area, there is (almost) a natural gas well for every 40 acres.

I’d also need the concurrence of the gas company. I don’t think that will be forthcoming.

You will also need an apparatus to put the really bad smell into the natural gas.

1950's, natural gas pipelines were install through Iowa. Two on my grandpa's 80 acre farm and another line about 2 miles south of the farm. Pipeline owners offered property owners free natural gas or money for the easement.

The odor is added before it goes in the transmission lines.

For what is worth, the gas fresh out of the wells (around here) smells like the gas that comes from the east Ohio Gas company (around here)! (Speaking from experience!)

Maybe NE. Ohio just has smelly gas! Lol

Don McCombs wrote:I’d also need the concurrence of the gas company. I don’t think that will be forthcoming.

*Maybe Don's lease says he has a right to tie in.*

If you dont have a physical copy of your lease Don, I would recomend a trip to your county recorders office or online if available and get a copy for your records.

I used to have a friend that had a big line run across his property about mid point back. He did not even know it was there.

It was leaking and bubbling in a spot.

He called the gas company and had them fix it, and he told me that the gas company told him he could tie in, (unusual for them to do), but for some crazy reason he choose not too.
