Always something

Postby Barnyard » Tue Jan 24, 2023 3:11 pm

Last week a cyst was discovered on my gum. This morning I went in for surgery at 9:30 am and completed about 10:30. Got home around 11:00. As of right now most bleeding has let up, so I have been able to remove the gauze and had two bowls of Jell-O. A lot of swelling, but so far no pain, waiting for the meds to wear off. Nose and lips are as numb as can be. An awful after taste is lingering and is very bitter if I swallow, which is very hard to do. It’s very hard to talk and was told that may last several days,

The bottom line is, a cyst the size of a half-dollar was removed from my gum as well as all but four of my lower teeth.. Cyst was sent out for analysis, but the doctor is confident that it is benign. Now for several days of rest and them check on getting some lower choppers so I can enjoy my corn on the cob this summer.

By next week I hope to be back to about normal. In November 2020 I had that huge bladder rock, within thirteen months in December 2021 it was diverticulitis and now another thirteen months later I have this. I don't wait to see what February 2024 has in store.

Some people may enjoy your not being able to talk! Now I've made the smart remark I hope you have a quick recovery and good news on the biopsy. Reminds me of a card I got after my heart surgery that said to take care of yourself, replacement parts are getting hard to find for us older models. Good luck!

Bill, start on the pain meds before the anesthetic wears off. More effective that way. Hope it heals fast.

Well Bill I'm sorry. BE careful on taking to pain meds. You could end up on other problems. Bowl movements. Not good.
Good luck heal fast.

I had oral surgery for a large cyst in my jaw bone, and for me since the large nerve bundle in the middle of the jaw bone was irritated by the surgery, I was given pain medication (which seemed like it was formulated for a horse). But for my mule-head it was not very effective and my jaw was really sore after waking from sleep. I found that placing a pillow under my jaw to keep my mouth shut while sleeping on my back greatly reduced the pain. You might need to be creative and be a patient patient but we are praying for your recovery!

Today I was eating meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas. Anything soft is going down well. Fortunately, I have only had to take one pain pill and that was as the meds wore off. Did fine after that. I'm not sure how long I will have all these stitches but, the sooner they go, the better.

Over the years, I’ve had lots of surgical procedures in and around my mouth so I feel your pain! Welcome to the soft diet world! I sure miss Fritos and peanuts!
