One of the many bad repercussions of 9/11 was that cockpits were locked so we could not easily interact with passengers. I one time had a "little old lady" stand in the cockpit doorway while still at the gate, and after talking with her, found out that she had been a WASP during WWII. She was SO sweet, and I really admired her for what those young ladies did. This brought back that memory. (Might need a tissue handy):

How beautiful! From 1990 to 2005 my wife and I performed as WWII re-enactors at the WWII Weekend every June in Reading, PA at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum. As much as I enjoyed interacting with the public, enjoyed the comradery of fellow re-enactors, and loved the time spent in the warbirds, my fondest memories are those times spent with the Veterans and families. I met many, many of them and became good friends with a few, something I will never forget. God bless all who served.

Very cool! I have a book written about the WASPs who served at Camp Davis during the war. (Camp Davis was an antiaircraft artillery base in Onslow County, NC. I take great pleasure in reminding big-headed Marines that the Army was here first!)
