Spotlight on Jeff( ) Murdock

Postby Cecil » Thu Oct 29, 2009 10:58 am

Name? Jeff Murdock
Age? 57
State/Province of residence? Maine, all my life
Marital Status? Married

-- Boys/Girls? 2 of each
-- Ages? 28 to 35
Grand Children? I hope
-- Boys/Girls?
-- Ages?
Great Grand Children?
-- Boys/Girls?
-- Ages?
Do you have any pets? Yes
-- Names, breeds, etc. George the Beagle, who even has his own Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id= ... 582&ref=mf It's actually me, but I don't have the courage to put my name out there in public. This spotlight is enough for me
Line of work? Logistics and commodities relocation (truck driver)
Retired or working? working
Degree's/Licenses/Certificates? Commercial driver's license, and a private pilot's license

TRACTOR RELATED QUESTIONS
-------------------------
Tractors and models owned? '55 Cub Loboy, '61 Ford 641
-- Any other type of farm equipment? A few attachments for the loboy and Ford
-- Combines?
-- Trailers? A few
-- Hay balers?
-- etc...
Are your tractors used for show or working? Working, but not hard (they're mine, after all)
How much Land do you work (Acres)? Own 4.5, work (mow) 2ish
What was your first tractor experience (does not have to be a Farmall or Cub)? Riding with my grandfather on the Ford when it was brand new while he mowed. He's long gone, but I still have the Ford and will never part with it
What is your Cub's primary work? Mowing, a little snow plowing
What is the favorite Cub of all which you have owned and why? Mine, it's the only one I've owned
What first sparked your interest in owning a Cub? It was for sale next door. I knew hardly a thing about Cubs, but had known of that particular one for 15 years and knew it was a good one. I bought it, and that evening found Farmallcub.com, and the rest is history.
What task/use of your Cub provides the most enjoyable seat time? Mowing. I've always enjoyed that task, but it's best on a Cub. People sure slow down when they see some old dude mowing his lawn on a Farmall. I also enjoy plowing an ice skating rink down on the lake.
Favorite thing you like about Cub's and Cadets? Cubs--big tractor feel in a small, simple package. Their quiet, smooth operation is amazing given their age. Cadets--(I've had 2)--solid, solid, solid garden tractor, and good looking to boot.
Describe your most satisfying or frustrating experience working on your own or someone else's Cub? I"m not much of a mechanic, but working on my loboy with the help of this forum has given me beaucoup confidence to do so
Do you host or participate in CubFests, Cubarama, Mini-CubFests? How so? Not a full-blown fest yet, but one of these days I'll git around tuit

Favorite Movie? Dances with Wolves or The Sting, can't make up my mind

Glad you have your grandpa's Ford and hope it always stays in the family.

As for your taste in movies, I agree with your choice of "The Sting". It is one of my all time favorites. :D

Is one of those wooden sail boats a Herreshoff? Grew up sailing Beetlecats, but haven't been sailing in years. But will always remember those years growing up...walking down to the boat yard and hearing a Sox game on someone's portable radio while they were bottom painting a dinghy. Nice bio

...and I particularly like the train poker game scene. Newman at his best. Robert Shaw wasn't too shabby, either...

Nope, although my BIL's wooden Lightning is out back (it's in sorry shape). I do have the care of a spectacular '56 Lyman outboard which belongs to a good friend of mine. I stays in the building up back and occasionally makes it down to the lake. I have a pic around here which I've posted before of it on the trailer behind my Loboy.

Larry, one of these days...... :D :D :D

Thanks for the nice comments, folks.
