My Bear 5/20/2012 - 11/27/2020
This beautiful lost little girl found us on May 20, 2012 at Napoleon Park located on the Missouri River. She was lost, starving, wearing a hunter orange collar that was so tight around her neck that I could barely fit a finger inside and covered in tick heads buried deep in her skin; the ticks had long dropped off leaving just the head. We brought her home, feed her and I spent a couple nights pulling the tick head off of her.
I checked for lost dog signs in the area where we found her, scanned all the online sources for a lost dog and found none (not that I really wanted to return her to a neglectful owner anyway, but I did look). I suspect, she was abandoned by a hunter because I believe she was gun shy; just my guess from her reaction to shooting and fireworks in the area over the years.
We bonded and she was my constant companion for the last eight years. This summer she started having seizures, which I later found was common in Labs/lab mixes. They increased in severity (even with medication) until I had to have her put to sleep to save her from the pain.
I miss her dearly and it will take a long time to heal this broken heart.

I know how hard it is to lose a pet. Hopefully, a new dog will help ease the pain when you're ready to get one.

Dennis, as the owner of five Border Collies, I am very aware of the attachment we have to our pets. They are members of our family and will always be treated as such. Rosanne and I grieve with you & Sharlan during this troublesome time.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: My Bear 5/20/2012 - 11/27/2020
Our last 2 dogs have been rescues. The current one had a sister and I always wonder how she is doing. We had to have our last dog put down after she got cancer. It was probably one of the worst times I can remember. I know what you are feeling. Please accept my condolences.

Saddened to read of your loss. Looks like you were in Napoleon Park at the right time eight years ago. I'm sure Bear couldn't have had a better home than with you. The Gragg Cat Ranch is called that for a reason; most of our pet cats are strays or dumps and they become very dear to us.
