Cyclone Spreader Restoration

Got a project that you are working on that is not a tractor? Maybe a barn to hold your tractors or just fun stuff like woodworking, glass, tools, sheds, gardens, custom implements, etc., this is the place to talk about it.

Cyclone Spreader Restoration

Postby Slim140 » Tue Nov 15, 2016 9:59 am

I bought this Cyclone spreader a couple months ago for $20. I only bought it for the fast hitch piece for another project I am building. I had no idea at the time they were made for Cubs so I decided to restore/rebuild it and I will just make me a fast hitch piece for the other project. The parts that are rusted beyond repair will be remade and the rest is going to burn off, blast and powdercoat. The original galvanized tub will be fixed and powdercoated silver like the wheels were on Arnold. I am going to get all new stainless bolts as well.

The guard is getting thin so I decided to make it out of stainless so it won't get thin again. Got to take it to a friend and have him bend the lip for me.

The tub isn't in that bad of shape, just needs a new bottom. The lid is in great shape.

The main frame is in pretty good shape too, repaired the worst spot on it.

Had my friend bend the 90 for me yesterday and I finished it this morning. Tig welded the middle on top where I had to cut it to get the angle.

Hopper bottom has been replaced. Went with stainless on it as well. It's almost ready to get blasted and be powdercoated silver.

Got the sliding door made this morning. That bend wasn't the easiest thing to do out of stainless but it's done. Now to polish the hammer marks out.

Made the little piece that goes on the end of the PTO shaft inside the hopper out of stainless. Now just have to weld it to the original 5/16-24 left hand nut.

Got the opener piece made that goes on the 5/16" shaft. I just cut the old one off with a cut off wheel, no point in trying to get those tiny set screws out knowing I wasn't using it anyway.
