.....and that's when they locked the penguin exhibit!
That was the end of the conversation I heard between two high school aged male wally world cashiers the other day as I approached the checkout.

Of course he did, Mike. That's all he heard and he passed it along to us. Now it's up to us to use our collective imagination and make some sense of it.

Re: .....and that's when they locked the penguin exhibit!
Well, I was a little surprised at the crickets for so long but after reading the comments I guess I understand.
I find this statement funny because I don't use "penguin" in conversation frequently. Other than finding out that black fuzzy glob in the picture of my great niece was her favorite stuffed animal Puffy the penguin, I couldn't tell you the last time I heard penguin used in conversation. I just think penguin is a fun word to say and used in the context it was there had to be SOMETHING going on. I also find humor, entertainment, fascination, and things that make you wonder in hearing the end of conversations. For instance you're getting on an elevator and you hear, "....... it took longer than I thought but really I'm glad it's over."
I did a little investigating for those of you wanting the Paul Harvey version and found out a couple years ago that the St Louis Zoo had a penguin "liberated" from the penguin exhibit on more than one occasion by students during their senior trip to the zoo. I guess the zoo had caught on so when our school was there and several of the boys started in the direction of the penguins................................THAT'S WHEN THEY LOCKED THE PENGUIN EXHIBIT!
