IH trip Plow

I bought a John Deere A last Oct. that included this plow. I've since been told its a Little Wonder No.4 plow with 14" bottoms. Someone has cobbed on some old split rim truck wheels which I hope to find some original style to replace them with. Thought this plow would be a good match for our Farmall H.

I think you will find that the A will be a much better plow tractor than the H.--the H should pull it but it was my findings that in this area the A was way more powerful .--My buddy pulls a 3-14 with his A and moves right down the field. thanks; sonny
PS you have a LOT of work cleaning the moldboards on that plow before you can use it !! LOL!!!!

You may be right. We use to pull a single 16" trip plow with the H years ago with a tired engine and it did fine. Might be to much to ask to go up to a double 14".

We have clay soil which makes for a tough sod. It might have trouble breaking new ground, but rolling a previous years crop under it shouldn't have a problem.

Don't think you should have any trouble w/2-14's if the H is in decent shape. and you have wheel weights! The M's were a 3 bottom tractor. Dusty B

Absence of tail wheel suggests a Little Wonder.

A late JD A is generally considered a 3 plow tractor, comparable to a Farmall M. A Farmall H is generally considered a 2 plow tractor, comparable to a late JD B. I'd try the plow with the H and if it doesn't work, go with the A.

Good to know. All we can do is try it and see what happens. Was your H a gas or an all-fuel?

Polish up the mold boards and shears. Give it a try.

We used to pull 2-14 plow with a WC Allis in Iowa. And a different 2-14 plow with an A John Deere.

It was originally all fuel, but had the high compression sleeves and pistons in it. It will need at least one set of wheel weights, or fluid in tires.

John, I have seen Dad pull 3-14's with an H when the 3010 was in the shop which was most of the time. It had the M&W sleeve and piston conversion from the original distillate engine. It also had 11 inch tires instead of the original 10 so the power increase would at least partly be offset by increased speed which with 3-14's wasn't much. Vern
