Yesteryear Farm Show Threshing in Longmont, CO

Postby Bob McCarty » Wed Aug 29, 2018 8:38 pm

Here's a link to a youtube video taken by a drone at our show. At about minute 3:40, the tines came off my fork. As I try to retrieve the end before it enters the cylinder, the side boards on the bundle wagon broke. Fortunately for me, no cuts, scrapes, or bruises. When the three tine fork finally exited the thresher, two of the tines were broken off.

Well, at least you didn't go in with the tines!
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Or get wrapped up in the belt. Hopefully on the next load they pulled the wagon up on the other side of the threshing machine.

I'm delighted that you are alright. The ending could have been far, far worse.

Glad no one got hurt. Agree with Bill; wagon should be opposite of tractor belt.

Glad you didn't get hurt Bob. The drone wasn't the only one looking over you that day.

Threshers are dangerous machines. I know a man who years ago lost both legs in a threshing accident. He recovered and lived a long and healthy useful and continued farming. thanks for sharing the video. We, our vintage club held our annual big sho on August 12th, including a threshing display. Thresher belt driven by a Mark 1 Marshall tractor.

Definitely glad you are OK. As soon as I saw you guys pitching over the belt I cringed. At least when you fell you had a bunch of straw to soften your landing and the side boards breaking may have saved you from getting caught in the belt. I know it takes a while to wind down even after you stop, but the guy on top was giving the stop signal for what seemed like a very long time. It was only ten seconds when I rewound it, sure seemed longer. Hang onto that fork and bring it out every season and talk about safety before the show, and how fast things can turn around. The next guy may not be so fortunate.
