Walk behind tractors

Postby CapeCodCubs » Tue Nov 20, 2018 6:55 pm

I recently got interested in walk behind tractors. I acquired 3 Planet Jrs and a Simplicity. One of them is a Planet Jr Tuffy. They are great for narrow rows. Anyone else caught the bug. They seam to becoming popular with small market farms.

There are several discussions the subject on this site. Search function.

I have parts of two each that I'm putting in the scrap pile.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I haven't had a chance to use my 2 wheeled tractors in several years. This coming spring I will probably get one out and plow a small garden plot at son's house.

I use a disk harrow and peg toothed harrow made for 2 wheeled tractors behind a Cub Cadet, after plowing the garden. The disk harrow and peg toothed harrow attached to the Cub Cadet without modification.

Pulling the disk harrow and peg toothed harrow behind a garden tractor is a lot easier on an old man than man handling a 2 wheeled garden tractor.

I rebuilt a cultivator for a 2 wheeled garden tractor, but have never used it. Easier to run a rototiller down the rows.

Ha! There is no such thing as an old man, except when you have a Troy Bilt. Those machines are beasts. Then I feel old.

I got mine walk behinds with the idea of working here and doing my brothers garden. Easier than hauling a Cub and a plow and harrow.

For a couple of springs I would install the 193 plow and then load my standard Cub and plow on the trailer. Haul the Cub and plow for 15 miles, unload, plow son's small garden plot, load everything up, return to acreage. Took around 1/2 a day.

I can start up the 2 wheeled garden tractor, plow the garden in 30 or 40 minutes. Attach the disc harrow and peg toothed harrow to a Cub Cadet and be done with the garden tilling on an hour and a half.

One of my landloards had a couple of Gravelys that he used in his garden. One he used just for winter blade use, the other he had rotary plow on for the garden. worked slick! I ues my DB's a lot, have one midland M that is nice to cultivate with. Biggest problem is the ground speed is a bit too fast and cultivator will cover up the crops.
Currently looking to convert a DB to hydro-drive. That would get speeds down to a usable rate! thanks; sonny

Do any of you know what these two are? My dad passed away and I am waiting until warmer weather (soon!) to bring them home and check them out.

EDIT: I am thinking the green one is a Planet Jr. Tuffy...

Check the tractor frames for data plates.

If you are planning on using the tractors, implements usually interchange or easily adapted.
