Head bolts

Postby john2189 » Wed Jul 06, 2022 4:51 pm

Should head bolts in aluminum blocks be dry or oiled when torqued?
Thanks

Probably really depends on the manufactures recommendations.

Best to consult the service manual for what your working on if possible!

I found a manual online (one of the ones that has bad print) and it says use motor oil on threads

Are the holes blind or do they go into water passages? If blind holes I'd use copper antiseize. If in water use liquid Teflon. It will both seal out any water and will keep bolts from seizing up.

They are dry holes. The manual i found online says to use oil, but I put a dab of never seize on them

I don’t know what happened to the rest of the letters I typed but yes, use it.
