The Farmall 560 was rated at 5 bottoms and it had about 55 HP.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

My Dad has a 265 MF and it pulls 3-18" plows. Which would be 54 inch cut per pass. Part of how many bottoms you can pull depends on the size of the plows. 5-12's make a 60 inch cut while 5-18"s make a 90 inch cut.

I could easily be wrong but isn't 275 massy a 75 hp tractor.

It all depends on the soil you have. My neighbor has a 175 he pulls a 3 bottom 16 no problem. If we hook up my 4 bottom 16 it struggles. It does it but struggles. I myself do not like to run a tractor wide open all day even if it is a diesel. I have a 115hp pulling the 4 bottom and depending on the moisture in the soil it bogs me down. the general rule of thumb in my area is 25hp for each bottom.

So in your dirt, a Cub won't plow at all. :D

That is why I was amazed when I saw people posting about plowing with a cub. Speaking to my father and several older farmers. 8n's and super A's use to be common. There are not many cubs to be found in my area. Also those tractors all had single bottom 12" plows.

if you have sandy soil you should be able to pull it. My soil is heavy, it is great for growing just hard to work.

Couple of points here, a Cub plow is 12" and you only plow 6" deep. With a big tractor you normally pull 16 to 20 " bottoms and run 10 plus inches deep. HUGE difference in power requirement. plus with a big tractor I always tried to maintain at least 51/2 mph. In the soils around here
14" takes about 15/ bottom
16 20
18 25
20 takes about 30 to 35 per bottom.

My ground here is good texture, BUT the Cub struggles with a single 6" bottom!--pulls it but struggles! this ground is extremely heavy!
The 560's around here will barely handle 4-14's in low gear,--I went to 3-14's in second gear on ours and do good, so the ground type has a whole bunch to do with what you can pull!
It's varied from farm to farm too! thanks; sonny

at work we use a JD 2640 diesel... rated at 70hp i think, we use 3 18's ifn i remember right, fairly hard soil, usually we have to keep the plows up a bit from bottom, runs out of power and traction, generally i hold on the diff lock when it starts to slip

with my IH 544 I pull a two bottom plow and its write around 45hp I would guess you could pull a three bottom pretty nicly. You might see if your friend will let you take it for a test pull/drive :D

We have reasonably heavy soil here, with the Lanz 5506 16hp I manage the Mc Cormick 2 bottom plough at about 4mph, struggles uphill, a wonder down, it is at 12" at the moment, but for the next season I am going to try it a bit wider, the Percheron will pull it if the Lanz doesn't.
Cub pulls it's little plough a treat, but not so deep.
