Planet Jr.

Postby batty54 » Wed Jan 23, 2008 4:39 pm

Anyone have any interest in the Planet Jr. tractors?

I have a few HB models, my Father bought one new in the late 40's early 50's. I am planning to restore it this year. It has the Briggs BR6 engine on it which I rebuilt it back in 1973, but could never find an original muffler.

This is a tank I used it to cultivate my asparagus patch a few years ago. I don't know how my Father managed to cultivate 12 acres after working all day on construction.

Do you have any photos of your tractors? Looks to be a really interesting garden tractor.

Standard Catalog of Farm Tractors has a photo of one with a sulky.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Now that the pics are set I can tell the story of the Ebay HB tractor.

Joe Malinowski and I went to the Orange, MA., engine show a few years ago. I was walking by a pickup with an HB and some other stuff on the back. I struck up a conversation with the guy standing there and we agreed on him holding it till the owner who was enjoying the show got back. On the way out I finally got the owner of the HB who said it was sold. I said "yes, to me" no was the response it is sold to another guy. O.K. I gave up easy and we left.

About a year later I saw this one on ebay and contacted the owner to take a look at it. I found out he was an acquaintance from another small engine group. I went to his place and it turned out to be the same one from the show. He bought it and took off the front caster wheel which was not original but fit a mower he was working on.

I ended up getting the machine for less than the show price and picked up a set of original wheel weights and some cultivators too. The original owner still had a bunch of implements for it but I was never able to contact him. Enough rambling for now.

i have used a planet jr planter, if it is in good shape and you are not planting many acres they work great. They are hard to find sometimes. I am talking about a planter for tractors.
