Hand corn sheller
Picked up an antique hand corn sheller recently - would like to find out what make it is - has tinges of red in the few places that isn't rusty! Is there a site to identify stuff like that?(would post a picture of it if I knew how!) Thanks

Re: Hand corn sheller
There were quite a few comanies that made very similar shellers. Many have the name cast in somewhere. If there isn't one cast in, it may be very difficult to determine who made it.

Dusty:
As Jim said, if there is a casting ID somewhere on the unit you should be able to find out who made it. If there is nothing, not even a remnant of a decal, well it may prove to be nigh on impossible.
You said " (would post a picture of it if I knew how!) ", well it is easier than many think. All of that is covered in the Welcome Wagon text as pointed to in the pointer that I try to ensure all new members get. It can also be found on its own, in the Site Rules Forum.
The Cub Book of Knowledge is where much of that info resides as of the moment.

Re: Hand corn sheller
A patent number may trace back to someone the manufacturer was paying patent royalties to.

Re: Hand corn sheller
I have one as well, never been able to find out anything other than:
"International all steel one-hole corn sheller"
Haven't found out any information about an actual model #.
(photo from Wisconson Hist Society #11639)
Hope this helps.

Re: Hand corn sheller
Notice the figure "8" belt on the fan. I have heard that an "O" ring seal from a 5 gallon bucket will work for this belt.

Me too. I even have a new decal for when I ever get it painted and a "round tuit".

Re: Hand corn sheller
Would like to know where you got the decal - that would be neat to have! Thanks to all for the help - enjoyed the pic too! Turned the handle on one like it many times as a boy for feed! Now all I need is a small burr mill!

Re: Hand corn sheller
Seeing this brought back some memories form my youth. We had an old wooden frame corn sheller, brand unknown that we used for years. It was fairly good size, and in addition to having a crank it also had a flat belt pulley on the same side as the fan pulley, to which we would hook a small electric motor if we had quite a bit of shelling to do. To grind sausage when we used to butcher hogs we would put the sausage grinder beside it and use a piece of baler string tied form one handle to the other ( left some slack to allow for difference), and used the electric motor to turn the sheller, and the sheller turned the sausage grinder. Talk about hillbilly engineering.
