How do you check the max rpm while setting the governor? I'm sure some of you can do it by ear, but not me! Do you hook up a tach? Dwell tach? Laser tach?

There's several ways to measure RPM, my favorite, for such application, is a photo tach. Put a reflective strip on the pulley and just point at it. Probably what you're calling a laser tach.
