These fertilizer droppers were ate slap up. Had them burnt off and chipped away at the rust and got back down to good metal.

Had some new fertilizer opener wheels made out of stainless on a laser from a shop who does laser work for us. Couldn't find wheels that were the size I needed with the correct bolt pattern. I know these aren't as hard as what I could buy but they are better than what I had. Also made some new wear pieces on one side of the wheel and scrapers on the other. Found a parts book online that shows all the pictures and that is all I needed.

I took some 3/4" washers and drilled them out to 1", slit one side then took the angle grinder with a cut off wheel and cut a piece of pipe (1 left, 1 right) to press the washers with a bend for the auger. I also made 2 new paddle wheels for the ends.

Welded the washers on everywhere I could to prevent rust in open spaces. I also made 2 bearing holders with brass sleeves, have no idea what was there before it had all rusted away.

When I was a boy, a neighbor planted all our corn--probably 50-75 acres--with a planter like that and a nearly new MF 245. You were big-time if you had a 4 row planter in our area in the early 1980s!
