Cub rear wheel weights
I am working a 1955 Farmall Cub. I want to take the rear wheels off and paint the rims and the weights. I remember 15 or so years ago doing the same with my 1946 International A and those weights were a bear. I do have a cherry picker now, but I am looking for suggestions on how to handle those weights. I am getting too old to wrestle them around too much. Thanks

If you go to the "how to " forum and look under "steering, tires/wheels, and weights" you'll find a variety of suggestions that may fit your equipment.

Re: Cub rear wheel weights
I used the 4 x 4 bolted to a floor jack method to mount the rear weights on my '47 and it worked great.

This is the method I was talking about. (Note: picture isn't mine, I probably found it here on this site.)

Re: Cub rear wheel weights
Just remember to wedge the front when you remove the rear wheels.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Yep, that's my picture/method. The 4x4 works good except you have to be careful it doesn't flip your jack as the weight hangs out beyond the forward wheels of the jack. I solved this by sitting on the other end of the 4x4 while sliding the weight into place. I'm still singing tenor.

Re: Cub rear wheel weights
Here is a link to what I made, it consists of a couple pieces of square tubing welded together, 2 grade 8 bolts and a clevis. The bolt that carries the weight has been round to a bit of a point to make it easier slipping through the hole in the disk. It can be used to handle 2 weights at a time, and the tubing is long enough to mount weights on my H if I want to. The length of the bolts is to allow it to reach over the tire. I can get a closeup of it if you wish. George Willer made one that was curved, which looked much better, and was all one piece, but I had neither his skill nor his tools, so I made do with this. viewtopic.php?f=143&t=51950
In my younger days I used to put them on by hand, just lifting them up and holding the weight in place with one hand while I put the bolt in place. Now at almost 70 years old I have been paying for doing things like that for a few years.

Re: Cub rear wheel weights
Thanks for the idea. After I posted it, I saw something similar but made from 2x4s. I checked and the weights are 150 pounds or so. I do have a cherry picker but as someone else said, gotta be careful with it given the poundage. It can tip!. I just turned 70 and trying to work a bit smarter.
Thanks for good advice.

Re: Cub rear wheel weights
If by "cherry picker" you mean an engine hoist, it should be capable of lifting far more than 150 pounds.
Many years ago, the late George Willer made an attachment for the engine hoist that was similar to John's device. Does anyone still have a photo of that device? Thanks.

Re: Cub rear wheel weights
I made a hook from a piece of rebar that I can use on a chain hoist. If the tire/rim is mounted, they get in the way. John's or the previously mentioned George Willer hook have a big enough reach to go around the tire. Here is a thread, recent enough to not have broken picture links, that shows several approaches.

Re: Cub rear wheel weights
Has anyone used either of the rigs in this thread to mount 2 rear weights on the same wheel at the same time? Upwards of 300 # hanging off a single pin seems like a lot.
EDIT I see that George indicated that his rig could do 2 at a time. Anyone done it?

Re: Cub rear wheel weights
If you've got a cherry picker, you should be able to just use a strap looped through the center to lift it off or on.
