Re: is this backhoe original ?
Looks homemade to me. Like Barnyard said in another post about it, it needs outriggers for stability. Dangerous without them.

was there another post about it ? I think it has some kind of posts that drop down to act as stabilizers.

It looks like at least the boom assembly came from a fairly early Sherman, probably originally on a Ford tractor. Scroll part way down this page:

Cool stuff Jim. I see 2 pieces of metal behind the rear wheels and they appear to have hydraulic cylinders on them, I guess that was their stabilizers.

The stabilzers are clearly visible in the picture on the NFord page. The pictures of the Cub mounted ones are too dark in the area close to the tractor to see how much of the original or what else may be there (at least on my display).

Re: is this backhoe original ?
If it were me, and I had the money, time, place to store it, etc. I'd buy it even if it didn't have the outriggers. I'm sure you could find or rig up something suitable for outriggers. But that's just me, I've always wanted a backhoe just to say I have one. Kind of like a dozer that I don't need but want. Come to think of it, that's why I have 2 cubs in the first place.

Re: is this backhoe original ?
I have a backhoe, cant be any bigger than this one, it attaches to my 790 JD. I have used it so much I don't know how I lived without one honestly.
I find this old contraption very interesting and I too would buy it if i could afford it!
someone here on the forum has a backhoe on a cub if I remember right??

Re: is this backhoe original ?
This is one Rick Prentice build several years ago. He has since removed the backhoe and loader and sold the cub.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: is this backhoe original ?
Thanks guys. Right after I painted up the 55, my son Todd asked if I had enough parts to put a cub together so they had a display for the Mich Flywheelers every year. I decided to just remove everything and give them the 55 cub. I quickly installed the front loader and backhoe on my 48 cub. Once you own a loader and backhoe it's hard to part with it. Rick

Re: is this backhoe original ?
That pic in the driveway was when the setup was mounted on my 52. I wanted to switch things to the 55 to gain toggle brakes which were much better. I had it on my 55 for just a month or two before I removed it again and gave the cub to my son. It's been on my old rusty 48 for a couple years now with band brakes again. Some day I'll get it all painted up. It's a good thing it's easy to swap from cub to cub.
I've used the backhoe on quick jobs where removing one scoop of dirt was needed for burying a dead animal along the road, but it bounces the cub around pretty good. Rock solid once the riggers and front bucket were lowered.

Still luv that look on that 55 Rick. I even like that one Russ posted. I'd just would add a 1000 loader n riggger (if none on it now).

Rick, is that backhoe self contained?
