Elk in the Neighborhood- photos added
For the last three days there has been a small herd of 15-20 that are wandering around the neighborhood pastures. A couple of bulls with the rest cows. All the horses don't know what to think about them. West of Loveland (20 miles north) there are much larger herds of 150-200 that are frequently seen. Sorry, no photos. Beautiful animals that all seem to be healthy.

A sight I’d like to see! Do they cause any problems, other than disturb the horses?

They'll damage shrubs and trees if that's all there is to eat. Years ago, a cousin in Cody, WY had a 20 acre field of alfalfa ready to cut. A herd of about 200 came down during the night and ate it to the ground. Mark said it looked like a lawn mower had run over the whole field.

Which is exactly what they did in Yellowstone, until the re-introduction of the gray wolf. We need a few wolves around here to manage the deer population. The coyotes are not doing their job.

No, These are 25 miles north of the Marshall fires which they now think may have been started by a coal seam fire underground. It's common for them to be seen west of Loveland, but this year is the first time I've seen them in our neighborhood.

I’d say hunters are not doing their job!
We were in the Smoky Mountains a few years ago and saw some elk. Didn’t know there were any there. Found out they were reintroduced into the area

Re: Elk in the Neighborhood
Ten young bulls in the neighbors pasture and backyard for about 3 hours today. My wife had her camera on some "painting" app that makes it look funny. They hopped over a 5' fence like there was nothing there.

Thanks for the pics. Bob! I don’t remember what that camera setting is called but it makes your pics look like someone painted them.

We can't find where the setting is to revert back to normal.
