Hello all,
I'm installing an oil pump on a rebuilt block, not the one it came off. The gear with the key seat does not slide on the shaft like the other does. Does it need to be tapped or pressed on? It's been quite sometime since I pulled it off but I don't remember it being difficult to get off like it was pressed on.
Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated.
Brian

No help from here on the gear, but make sure you are using a new correct gasket for the pump...it is a precision thickness. One of the few that can't be cut from a cereal box!!

It should slide on easy, check for nicks on the shaft and the key for damage

The gear doesn't slide on. It doesn't feel like it has burrs or ?
I bought a gasket pack that has one.. it's very thin. Do you put anything on the gasket?

No. And same as Tim (tst) said, when I reassembled mine, the 2 gears slid in while wiggling them to mesh.

Re: Any tips for installing oil pump?
The gear doesn't slide on, i'm not sure why but neither gear will and both will slide on the other shaft so I took some emery cloth to it and it seems to be the cure, although it will be tight. Maybe they bumped it when rebuilding the block.
So a little history here.. I tore this Cub down about 3 years ago and found a broken crank so I decided the best thing to do was buy a rebuilt block from Stiener I believe it was. Well.. Other things got in the way of project completion and here I am 3 years later and barely a place to work and i'm trying to put it back together. It will be a learning experience and you all will know me very well.. Lol. I'm pretty sure I have everything except what I can't find and what got tossed with the old block, like the oil pressure regulator.
Thank you for the help.. I think a little more buffing with the emery cloth and it will go on. I just need to be sure when I'm putting things together that I'm not missing something as the manual is not too specific.
Thanks again,
Brian

Re: Any tips for installing oil pump?
the gasket is very thin so you can almost see through it, if it is thick it will result in low or no oil pressure as it creates to much clearance in the pump
