Finally found time to cut the garden again, ran the yard tool over it to level it out and list rows today. It was a little dry though I’m not complaining. Now to get it planted. Supposed to rain later in the week here.

Plants are in. Don’t even know what all’s in it. Wife and kids went and got them and planted them while I worked our store.

1.25 inches of rain again overnight and field ponds full again!--Sweet potato plants on the way, gonna have to try to store them for a while! DANG WEATHER!! --- Almost lost the onion plants before it got just dry enough on top that I could plant them, now the sweet potato plants are turning into the same deal!--- They are not forgiving and don't have much storage life if not planted! ---Gotta love the joys of gardening!!

Finally got the 600 sweet potato plants in yesterday.--Still mud underneath, but dry enough on top to hold up a small tiller so I tilled up a strip for each row and planted! Plants have been in storage for a week and had to get in the ground or loose them.

Rain and more rain forecast for next 10 days. Garden plants have drowned in this area. I planted tomato starts about 3 weeks ago. They are not dead yet, just haven't grown.

I need to check and respray thistles, multi-floral rose, locusts, in 7 days. Doesn't look like it's going to happen as planned. Good news is that when the weather clears, the thistles and other weeds will be much larger, easier to see.

Did get a little more seed planted, sweet corn first two plantings in, This year going to try planting over a period of time to extend harvest. Cultivated the sweet potatoes and onions. Carrots,beets,parsnips,spinach all never came up. Green beans in, peas are 5" tall, just planted small patch of popcorn. Weeds are the only thing doing great this year. --- Yesterday it was cold high winds, couldn't stand up in it,so didn't get anything done in the garden.--last night we had a half inch more rain here, mud today.

While others have been getting rain and flooding it’s turned off hot and dry here. We haven’t had rain but once since planting our garden. The weeds aren’t even growing, haven’t cultivated garden since planting it. It’s raining here this morning but it’s gonna be short lived and gone before we know it.

I think Monday was the first time in a couple of weeks we didn't have rain. St. Patrick's Day peas are up and 10" tall and Onion bulbs are 6" or so. Put tomatoes, basil, cabbage, peppers and onion greens in last weekend....and they haven't drowned yet. The only seeds that have come up are beans, radishes and wife's arrugula (yuck). Cilantro, carrots, beets aren't up after 2 weeks so will probably have to replant.

Hoping to get the garden tilled tomorrow. Haven't been able to step foot in it until this week when the rains finally eased up.
Not sure if we'll plant on Monday or wait until next weekend.

Rain Rain Rain...
Have been trying to get a new garden started so I just decided to till it up between the rain storms. Threw the Model 15 tiller on the 184 and put it to work.


As you can see, this was an all grass (and rocks) area. This is how it looks after three passes with the tiller.


Tires will just have to clean themselves.

Finally got some planting done, yesterday. 2 weeks late for the first corn planting. Peas, maybe a month late.

Congratulations Ed! We are usually frost free by Memorial Day, but I'm still wearing a coat. I'll try to put some seeds and plants in the ground this weekend (late for seeds, but better than never). Really missing fresh vegetables.

Yesterday I got a few more seeds in the ground, cultivated some of the onions and whatever I could see that was up.-- peas about 6", turnips 8", no beets, carrots,or parsnips came up. --too wet/cold/bugs in the soil/etc. Potato beetles after the taters already, did 1 spray with spinosad, don't have much hopes for a crop this year, gonna quit planting taters because of the bugs, lost last 2 years crops to them, just no way to win that battle!
Did get a couple more rows of sweet corn in and the small patch of pop corn. Also green beans and our red dry beans.
Last nights storm dumped another 2" of rain here, fields across the road under water again.
Did get a lot of weeds tore up, but rain will just transplant them, so that might have been a wasted job. Didn't get the sweet potatoes cultivated, so that will be the next thing when it dries out enough. Been using smaller tillers instead of the big one so I don't pack the ground down with the tractor. -- Only been dry enough for the tractor 2 times all spring. thanks; sonny

Cultivated today for the first time. Need to hoe it now and fertilize but no rain in sight.
