Super M battery drain

Postby mcwinter » Tue Jun 04, 2019 10:03 am

Looking for any tips in locating a short causing battery drain in my Super M. Looks like a good place to start would be the starter switch, which is a little dirty with some surface corrosion and I imagine could be causing some drain. Another wire from this connection I believe goes to the light/ignition switch box.

Is it 12V? Does it have an alternator on it?

If the tractor has a generator and voltage regulator, probably the voltage regulator.

Disconnect the wiring from the B terminal on the regulator. Charge up the battery. Following morning, check battery condition and see if the tractor starts.
I have an excuse. CRS.

One more check. Disconnect one battery cable and fully charge. Connect ohm meter, ohms setting, between battery disconnected terminal and cable.

Check to see amperage drain. Disconnect the bat wire from the bat terminal on the regulator. Check the amp drain. If zero drain, regulator problem.

If you still see an amp drain, then disconnect one wire at a time until the drain goes away.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Just wanted to update what we found when we finally got around to opening up the battery box. Getting the battery out is a pain since the seat has to be removed and this tractor has a large and heavy seat. The battery that was in the tractor was too tall and the terminals were just brushing against the bottom of the battery box cover, providing a discharge path directly between terminals. With a new battery installed for several months now it holds its charge and looks like we solved the problem.

Question: tractor not to starting, could this be due to my fire up numbers being wrong?
