hello, don't have it sitting in the yard yet but will be this week and need lots of guidance on how to work on and steps needed to assure proper running condition.

That will give a couple of days to read up on your cub with the manuals and information provided here. I'm sure Glen will post you a welcome soon with a list of assets you can accesses after your second post.

Hi,
The Cub owner's manual will help you learn about maintenance that the Cub needs.
Below is the 1947 Cub owner's manual. The experts on here recommend people read it. It has lots of info about operation, maintenance, and lubrication. There is a table of contents on page 1. It shows how Cubs originally looked. The lube section begins on page 14. Changing the trans and final drive oils are on pages 20 and 21.
It has no Touch Control info. That is in the newer owner's manuals.

Below is the 1955 Cub owner's manual. It has Touch Control info on page 65 - 67.
Page 65 shows what the parts of the system are.
It tells how to change the fluid, and remove the air from the system on page 67.
Nowadays they use Case IH Hy-Tran fluid. It is sold at Case IH dealers. The system holds 3 1/2 Pints, when you drain and change the fluid, so a 1 gallon can is plenty.

Re: 47 FCUB owner
Hi,
If you find the tractor serial number, you can use info on this site to see what year the Cub is. Your post says it's a 47, but you can check that if you didn't.
Page 2 in the 1947 owner's manual above shows where the tractor serial number is, and where the engine serial number is. Someone has written the wrong number in the manual for the engine serial number, that is the block part number, not the engine serial number.
Sometimes the tractor serial number plate is painted over by someone, or it may be gone.
When you get the tractor serial number, look at the top of the page at Cub Info, there are listings of serial numbers, and the years they were made.
There are IH part numbers, and date codes on many of the castings of the Cubs. The part numbers don't tell much other than what part it is. They end in R1, R2, R3, etc.
The date codes tell when castings were made.
Below is info from TM Tractor showing what the date codes are.
http://www.tmtractor.com/id/id_004.htm
The page below shows where the codes are.
The code on the clutch housing is usually partly behind the clutch pedal.
