Original Cub Cadet rear PTO

Postby Justin313 » Sat Aug 10, 2019 12:41 pm

Hello ya’ll,
New to the forum. Let’s get right to my question. First, I have a 1961 Cub Cadet “Original”. I know that a Farmall Cub rear PTO will fit directly into the Cub Cadet. However, I need to change (swap) the upper main shaft drive to a longer one. I DO NOT have this part. So, I am looking for one. Do you know where I can find one, or can I get one made? Any help would be appreciated.
Justin

First welcome to the forum.
I purchased a complete fcub pto drive setup figuring to someday install it in one of my cc tractors. I wonder if the orginal drive shaft will work? The pto slider engages to the rear shaft.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

The original drive shaft on the fcub is like 4-5’ long. It would have to be cut down and re-splined and drilled for the PTO engagement lever. I know at one point cc made a “PTO kit” for cc. And in this kit was the replacement upper main shaft.

Have you tried the Case/IH dealership or a Cub Cadet dealership looking for the part?

Have you pulled the differential cover plate and checked to see if that end of the transmission main shaft is splined?

I have a differential/transmission from a 102 Cub Cadet, with what appears to be a factory installed PTO. The rear end is in my parts stash. Saving for gear replacement on my standard Cub. Now I'm curious. Will take another look at my diff/trans.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Here is a picture of the upper main shaft.(right side in picture) I did not contact IH/Cub cadet for this part. I’m under the assumption that it is NLA.

Even if OEM is nla, someone may make an aftermarket shaft.

True. Let me do some more digging on this.

I have two complete fcub pto assemblies with their shafts. What does the pto engagement slider lock into on the main shaft in the tranny?

Heck. For what they want for the PTO parts for one of the early Cub Cadets, I should sell my complete 102 rear end with PTO. That near $400- would buy me another standard parts Cub tractor or the parts to repair my standard Cub's rear end with money left over.

I think I gave less than $200- for the entire tractor and have parted it out, saving several hundred dollars.

Your 102 has a different upper shaft than the Original Cub. However, you are correct with what they want for them.

I’d like to assemble a cc drive around log splitter I’m too old to pull log splitter around. Driving the two stage splitter pump from the tranny might be too slow going through the gear reduction on the cc tranny. Going to final drives which I have three extra sets from 154’s and omit the cc gear reduction input using the finals maybe the answer. I purchased a complete fcub tranny too. Add a engine?
