New from Mississippi!
So my dad bought a ‘59 Cubbie some years ago with good intentions. People get old and do things they shouldn’t do so here I am trying to put this basket case together. I’d like to do this ASAP and rig it with a belly mower. It’d be convenient to get a parts tractor and put mine together that way, but I’m concerned about the ethics of chopping a tractor that someone else could make work for them. I’m gonna need some help IDing some parts, too. I work on cars so most of it is pretty obvious, but there are some little trinkets that look totally alien to me. I’m looking forward to getting it going. These are neat machines, and I’m glad to be here! I’ll be posting a good bit here in the next little bit so stay tuned. If you guys want a pic, I’ll post one. It’s just a mess, and I’m a bit embarrassed.

Re: New from Mississippi!
Welcome! Perhaps you can find a parts tractor with "just enough" parts (and maybe some implements) to get your dad's going.
Already dead and partially stripped tractors come with less guilt.

Welcome to the Forum! Inherited projects can be a challenge.
Take some time and read through a few threads to acquaint yourself with the Forum:
Don't know if you have all the manuals to your Cub, but after you’ve logged your 2nd post, you'll have access to the all the PDF Manuals. They are located via "Quick Links" in the upper left corner of your screen. Hit that and a pull-down appears where you'll find "PDF Manuals". Through that link, you'll be able to download an Owner's Manual (very strongly recommended) and any service manuals that interest you. You'll be able to familiarize yourself with your new-to-you Cub more quickly. Implement Manuals are also available.
We’d encourage you to take the Safety Test located in the Safety Forum: http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=68084
There are a lot of good threads dealing with Cub repair and maintenance in the How To Forum. Located here: http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=11
Take some pictures of your tractor and post them, we’d like to see it. Remember, when you have a specific question, start a new thread in the appropriate sub-forum and use the Preview button before hitting Submit--it'll show you exactly what your post will look like.
Glad you joined us.

Re: New from Mississippi!
WELCOME!
You are less than 2 hours from a Cubfest coming up in Bogalusa, LA, next month.
http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=105939
You should throw all those parts on a trailer, and head over! You'd be surprised at the headway that might be made in getting those parts sorted out! There will be many knowledgeable forum members there who can get you started in the right direction. Add to that some good food and tall tales...what's not to like?!!

Dixieland Old Engine and Tractor Club President is just north of you in south Jackson. The club spring show is at Columbia Water Park April 10 & 11th. It would be a good day trip for you. Saturday morning is the best day. Several Cub owners and club members in south MS. I'm near Waynesboro. I also plan to be at Bogalusa. I have a parts cub, what are you looking for?

Bogalusa is an excellent place to start. They’ll be working on cubs all day Friday and most of the day Saturday(March 20 and 21). You’re not far from me. I’m up in Raymond. Welcome to the forum!

Re: New from Mississippi!
Lots of great responses to sort through here! So I found soon after that they pulled the head, oil pan, and valve cover on what all indicators say was a healthy engine. Who knows, maybe a little blowby but nothing worth piecing it out over. I subsequently bought a complete ‘49 Cubbie. It needs a couple things here and there, but 99% I can sort out between NAPA, TSC, and the hardware store. And I already saw not to get a carb kit from TSC, by the way. I’m thinking I’ll hold onto the other one for parts. It makes me sad, not the tractor’s fault people who shouldn’t have messed with it did, but I wanted to get up and running pretty quick, and maybe someday I can revisit the other one when I have more time. I’ll attach a pic of the ‘49 I got and the ‘59 that got chopped. Also, I’ll make plans to head to the various events, and I’ll reach out to y’all that are close by and have parts if I need something.
It won’t let me attach pics. Says the file is too large even for just one...

Don’t know what device you’re using, but on my iPhone when I select a pic from my library, it allows me to resize the pic. Choose small if you have that option. Otherwise, you’ll have to find a way to resize the pic.
