Remove wheel on EZ Flow 100 Spreader

Greetings,

Though my father, uncles, and grandfather were farmers, I'm a city kid. I don't know how to remove the wheel on this EZ Flow 100 Spreader. I need to replace the tires on the spreader.

Any instruction would be welcome.

I've never seen one, so this is just a guess. I think you need to depress the pin on top in order to allow the curved piece on the bottom to swivel out towards you. I think that will release that bottom rectangular plate and then the hub will slip off or unscrew. Looks like several days soaking in a penetrating oil might be necessary.

It has been a long time since I have even seen one of those. I believe the outer part with the spring loaded dog is pinned directly to the axle. The hub of the wheel is free to turn on the axle unless the dog is engaged into the notch of the hub. I think the wheel slides off once the outer part is removed. The trick is figuring what holds the outer piece to the axle. There is probably a pin that holds it. Look closely at all the outer surfaces of that part for a pin.

After that doesn't turn anything up, start looking down towards the axle through the notch in the hub. There may be a pin that is reached only through the notch. You will have to rotate either the wheel or the axle full circle to check all the way around.

I recall it being fairly easy, once you find the secret.

Pulling the carter pin on top of the spring should release the pin, but after that you are on your own.

After you get the spring out--things should be clear as to what comes off next. --I replaced the tires/tubes on ours with them on the spreader---much faster that trying to take stuff apart. These are a very complicated made spreader and very few survived for very long!-- I junked 20 or so of them 55 years ago! -- everybody was getting rid of them and wanted me to haul them away,--they went as tin/wire which wasnt worth hauling!
