Old age

Postby torchred89 » Wed Mar 31, 2021 5:48 pm

I had to put a new belt on my Troy built tiller. It took me a half hour to get it off. I held it up to the new one and it had stretched. Took me another half hour to get the belt on. When I got done I looked on the ground. There was the new belt I put the old belt back on. :?

Honestly, I think a lot of us can relate to your experience. :surrender: BUT, it's a lot less expensive than sessions with a psychiatrist.

Reminds me of removing the left final drive so I could replace a bad oil seal on the output shaft (pinion shaft) of the transmission. Got it all done, final back on, wheel on, and tractor off the jack and blocks, and after I had gotten on it to drive it to the lower shed where I normally park it I realized something did not look right. Then I noticed the fender stilll leanin g against the side of the shed. That was about 18 years ago, imagine how bad I am now.

My latest old age story. 3 days old.

2 cylinder Kawasaki engine in JD Gator. Replaced the engine side cover plate, leaking gasket in water jacket. Reassembled engine, installed, wires and hoses hooked up. 1 1/2 quarts oil installed. Checked oil, engine full. No engine start, waiting on new water pump.

Note. Didn't need the water pump, on Ebay the water pump with the two needed gaskets was the same price as the individual gaskets.

Next day, oil on shop floor, engine empty. I had snugged down the oil drain valve by hand during assembly.

Oil dry, tighten oil drain valve with wrench. Still have the oil mess on floor to clean up and put in the burn barrel.

Tomorrow. Place oil pan under drain hose. Install 1 pint oil. See if the shut off valve leaks.

Memo to self. Don't do that again.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Wife, son, and I, poured 1 1/2 cubic yard concrete sidewalk at the fixer-upper house.

Cement truck driver told wife that we were the oldest couple he had see working a pour.

Must have felt sorry for wife and I because he helped level out the cement a bit.

Any way, we had the cement paid for, leveled, screeded, floated, and the tools cleaned off in one hour.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I've finally decided that it's OK to let younger people help out sometimes.

He wasn't much of a help. Took a garden rake and tamped down some of the concrete.

Other hand, I was appreciative for his 3 or 4 minutes easy work. But, he let me shovel the cement around the forms. I would have thought a lot more if he had shoveled the cement and let me use the rake.
I have an excuse. CRS.
