154 Alternator and Temp Gauge
Added a 130 amp alternator from a Ford truck. Replaced the mechanical fan with electric fan. This gave me room to mount the alternator where the fan pulley was. Drilled and tapped two holes in the upper hose neck for the fan switch and temp gauge sending unit. Seems to work really well even on hot summer days. I really only work the tractor in the winter plowing snow. Made a little boom off the back for lifting things up or getting unstuck. All LED lighting all the way around. Still have to get a muffler stack for it and make a bracket to support it. Had to cut the original muffler off to fit the alternator. Feel free to offer constructive criticism.

Dont know what kind of motor your 154 has but mine wont pull that big of an alternator---them things take 25 hp or more just to run them and my motor only has 9 hp! ---- good luck on all your expensive work!

Re: 154 Alternator and Temp Gauge
It's just a regular 'Ole C60. The tractor was sitting in a barn for about 15 years before I rescued it. I didn't do much motor work to it besides a head gasket and valve adjustment. Rebuilt the carburetor. The mice got to the wires so it's completely rewired, along with plugs, wires, and all the other ignition parts. It runs great, real smooth and enough power for snow plowing. I had an old halogen type lightbar on it and the motor would definitely struggle with it on. It would stall out on idle hahaha.
Now I have an all LED strobe bar on it and it only pulls about 8 amps. Also if you notice on the dashboard, there is a switch next to the temp gauge. That switch turns the alternator off so if for some reason I need the extra horsepower I can run it without the alternator for awhile. The alternator warning light is in place of the fuse spot. Next to that is an orange light that comes on with the cooling fan so I know when its on. None of this was necessary, just a fun project.

Probably way more alternator than you need but it's hard to beat stuff that's paid for. It won't take much engine power unless you've got a big electrical load (as you've noticed).

Re: 154 Alternator and Temp Gauge
130 amps x 14.5 volts = 1885 watts. 1885 watts divided by 746 = 2.52 hp. That would be the approximate maximum load on the engine. Actual horse power load on the engine would depend on the wattage consumption of the working appliances. Fully charged battery with only the ignition working, the horsepower load will be minimal.
Question. How did you wire the starter/generator - - eliminate the regulator?

I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: 154 Alternator and Temp Gauge
Ya if there is a big load on the alternator you can definitely feel it. I will never need 130 amps but it was from a truck going to the junk yard so I figured what the heck. The starter is wired just like a normal starter. I used 2 or 4 guage wire for all the battery cables and from solenoid to starter.

Re: 154 Alternator and Temp Gauge
Well, free is free, we can appreciate that. When I built Cubota, I just happened to have a brand new Delco CC120 alternator, laying on the shelf, so of course I employed it. This one has an output, I’m thinking, 105 amps. It’s way overkill for my needs, and since my Kubota engine was designed for power unit use, it’s low speed governor control is not too good. That alternator gives it fits at idle. The hood is coming off soon and it will be switched to the 35 amp. Mini Denso.

I've seen pictures of your Cubota. She's beautiful. If I didn't already have an alternator I probably would've gone with a much smaller one as well. Probably easier to fit under the hood as well.

Re: 154 Alternator and Temp Gauge
I appreciate you sharing the mod's to your 154. I really like the coolant catch bottle, though I don't see a tube running down near the bottom of the bottle to draw the overflow back into the radiator. The bottle is unnecessary, but I still like this mod for some reason.
When running a sprayer or a lot of lights while plowing snow, I really enjoy having an alternator that keeps up. Thanks Again for sharing!

Re: 154 Alternator and Temp Gauge
I have 10si alternators for everything.
My son just started on my #1 int154 today. It’s my mower. 3pt hitch. Cleaning and pressure washing it. Then strip what we can wire wise. New dashboard, amp gauge, oil pressure gauge. All new wiring.
My #2 int154 is my fel, backhoe project.
My #3 int154 has the snowplow, creeper

I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
