Touch Control Lift Arm
I've noticed it for a while, but the right hand touch control lift arm seems to be bent differently than the left arm (which has a shield). It's a long shot, but does anyone have a straight lift arm they might sell me? Basically, the right lift arm is about an inch or two lower than the left outer lift arm ( from the operator's perspective). If that makes any sense.
The right arm that appears bent is a mystery to me. I see no signs of stress almost like it was cast that way from the factory. I would expect cast parts to snap rather than bend. As a last resort I could try seriously heating it and bending it straight or attempting to fabricate a replacement...not an easy task.

Re: Touch Control Lift Arm
To alleviate any concerns. I checked the keyway on the rockshaft and it's in great shape. It lifted the plow just fine with it so it's this odd bend in the lift arm that has me puzzled. Please keep in mind I'm a rookie with the nuts and bolts of old Farmalls. I love them and have some solid stick time, but I'm always learning.

How about posting a photo of what you are talking about?

Give me until tomorrow. I'll try to get some pictures. It's already way too dark here to take good photos.
In the near term, I believe this is what I'm looking for.

This is a scaled down photo of the bend in the existing lift arm. Sorry I'm trying to explain this the best I can. Notice the left hand bend mid way through? The other side of the tractor is straight.

This is the left hand side without a bend.

I'm going from memory (sold the tractor) and a not-so-good photo here, so bear with me. I think your rockshaft is as it should be. Take a look at the photo below. You'll have to enlarge it to see the rockshaft clearly. If you PM me your email address, I can send you a higher resolution photo.

Thanks. I can see enough in your photo that it's a similar arm to the one I have. I checked against some photos online and there must have been two different arm styles sold back in the day. Perhaps it's something to do with the fast hitch option on some machines? Most tractors seem to have the straight arms on both sides. Your photo is the first I've noticed that may have the same angled right hand arm as mine has. I was having some binding on the lifting bar for my plow so I am thinking of trying to swap out that right arm with the straight style and seeing if that helps. Assuming I can find one.

Re: Touch Control Lift Arm
I found a clearer picture of the right hand arm on my tractor.

Re: Touch Control Lift Arm
I went ahead and found another arm online so I'll see if that helps. Thanks for your quick feedback. Those fast hitches sure look slick.

Re: Touch Control Lift Arm
Looks to me like your arm is bent. I believe it is a forged part rather than cast iron, thus the ability to bend without breaking. When you get your replacement arm, you will probably find the same part number as your original. The outer arm on the other side is the same except for the added shield. The right arm for a Fast-Hitch tractor is different, but that is because of the added connecting point for some Fast-Hitch linkage.

I didn't realize they were forged. Because of the shape I figured they had to be cast. That would explain how it bent instead of snapped. I received the replacement arm and it looks identical to my existing one but straight. It was taken off of a parts tractor so it needs some cleaning and repainting but looks like it should bolt right on. Since these are forged that gives me hope of heating and straightening the old one for a spare.

Re: Touch Control Lift Arm
We tried getting the bent arm off and it was really stuck on the rockshaft with rust. We tried a small gear puller that had thin enough claws to slide behind the arm socket but we couldn't get it to budge without shearing bolts on the puller. We ended up taking the machine to a wizard of a tractor mechanic in the area and he was able to get it off. He cut small notches in the back of the arm to provide clearance for a bigger puller that popped it off. The shaft will clean up just fine.
While he was looking at it he noticed this tractor has the wrong 12v alternator. The one on it is a 2 wire unit and I need a single wire 63 Amp alternator. Apparently this tractor has been running off the battery. I keep it hooked up to a battery tender so I didn't notice. I'll take some measurements of the existing unit and order the proper one. The tractor appears to otherwise be set up correctly with a resistor and the correct ammeter and coil but what do I know?

Re: Touch Control Lift Arm
Since the tractor was originally 6v with a generator, I'm not sure how you define the "wrong" alternator. One thing though, I think alternators are usually set up with either 1 or 3 wires. Maybe it isn't connected properly.
