1954 Super A1 carburetor
I have a 1954 Super A1 that has a marvel carburetor on it. It does not have a tag and the idle air adjustment screw is on the block side of the top housing. With this type of arraignment, I don't believe this to be the correct carburetor for this tractor, but maybe for one where the carb would be mounted on the right hand side of the engine. Does anyone with a super A1, 100, or super C know what carb would have come on these tractors in mid year 1954? I know it could be either a marvel, zenith, or Carter, but would like to know part numbers or carb numbers if possible. Trying to restore this one as accurately as possible. Thanks

Re: 1954 Super A1 carburetor
I see no one else has replied. I'm not sure I can add anything useful, but here it is.
I'm not sure a Marvel carb was used on the Super C, Super A1, or 100. It did show up on some later C-123 engines. The 2 tractors around here with M-S carbs have the idle mixture on the outer side, like you would expect. The ID tags are attached to the side of the top housing, immediately below the throttle shaft. If your idle screw is on the back side, maybe your ID tag is also. Unless you have removed the carb so you could see the entire back side, you may have a tag that you simply can't see because of the location.
In any case, I think your carb is probably from some other engine. Also, I think for a full-up accurate restoration you will want a Zenith or Carter carburetor.

I&T shop service manual, IH-8, lists the Marvel Schebler carburetor, TSX-157, for gas, for the A, AV, B, BN, Super A, Super AV.
TSX-156, Kerosene for same tractors.
Carter UT733S for Super A. Zenith 161X7-10514 for Super A.

I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: 1954 Super A1 carburetor
Thanks for the information. I have done some research in my parts manuals and it does look like the Carter and Zenith we're the carbs supplied. Does anyone know if the Carter carbs have part numbers on them like the Zenith or marvel? I have one on a super A I have, but I can't find an IH part number or carb ID number. Did it originally have a tag under a screw?

That's interesting. I had a 1962 140 that had a marvel on it also. They must have started using them again after the 130.
