Touch control hydraulics
Good morning gentlemen, I am rebuilding my touch control hydraulics and found the connecting rod was broke at some point in the past and poorly repaired. My question is can I replace this rod only with one from an older style touch control unit? Mine is the newer style. I understand the yoke is different on the older model and I could hopefully use the one I have. Any thoughts thanks Bill.

Re: Touch control hydraulics
Just checked the Parts Manual for both blocks, and the part number appears to be the same for both blocks:

Ladies and Gentleman...Dale is one of our Touch control experts here. Might as well use the proper address. I'm sure we can think of her as "just one of the guys" but we will leave that up to her
I couldn't resist that one...has anyone found a way to make a sarcastic font yet?

Re: Touch control hydraulics
Good morning everyone, I discovered the spring washers on both the pressure regulator valve and the safety valve on my newer style hydraulics part numbers 43 and 34 respectively were broken. I checked with IH and they do sell these washers at an incredibly high price, is there another source for these washers? Also could someone tell me which way the barrel part #38 in the safety valve is oriented, one end is open and I dropped it before I realized which way it was removed and the parts manual is to hard to get that detail. Any ideas, thanks Bill.

Re: Touch control hydraulics
Check the HOW TO on the newer block...it has super photos and should help:
http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=42857
And Steiners sells both washers:

Re: Touch control hydraulics
Dale, excellent resource for the hydraulic rebuild. I also checked with Steiners for the washers, the price was much more reasonable than OEM parts. Kind thanks for these references, Bill.

Re: Touch control hydraulics
Does anyone put any type of gasket sealer on the hydraulic unit before assembly? When I disassembled the back plate there seemed to be an adhesive of some kind, not silicone...

Re: Touch control hydraulics
Hi,
You could check the bottom cover with a straight edge before putting it on.
The rear plate is called the head. I wouldn't put sealer on it.

Re: Touch control hydraulics
The instructions say to use NO sealant...install the gaskets dry. I opened up a TC Block where someone had used Silicone sealer, and there were pieces of it packed in the orifice screen!

Re: Touch control hydraulics
I followed Dale's detailed instruction at the bash, no sealant used and no leaks to date.

Re: Touch control hydraulics
Yes, put them on dry and let the gasket do what a gasket is supposed to do.

Re: Touch control hydraulics
Use LOTS of HyTran (or equivalent) during reassembly...pouring it into all the holes, nooks, and crannies, and dip the parts into it before insertion!
