Looking to purchase a late model 140 to pull a lesche raised bed shaper (among other things) for our cut flower farm in Maryland. The attachment is 540lbs and the manufacturer recommends a tractor with min 25hp to pull it. Do you think a 140 can lift this regularly without issue?
Thanks,
Jake

Re: Farmall 140 rear pto weight limit
Ummm....
Just in case. PTO = power take off!
The pto is not a hitch, but a way to mechanicly drive a implement with power from the tractor engine.
Now the 140 is generally a tractor with a one point fast hitch, or just a plain ole drawbar.
There can be a 140 out there with a aftermarket 3 point hitch installed.
I have no idea of how the implement you specified hitches to a tractor, but most bed shapers I see advertised used a 3 point hitch.
I can not say for sure, but believe it is possible for a 140 to lift 540 pounds. Probably more than that!
Maybe someone can chime in with the exact lifting capacity of the 140.
Are you sure it is 540 pounds and not 540 rpm?
540 rpm (rotations per minute) is the standard speed of most (but not all) tractors pto.

Re: Farmall 140 rear pto weight limit
Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I misspoke didn’t mean PTO. Yes the raised bed shaper is a 3 point. Hopefully I’ll find a 140 that already has a quick hitch then I’ll just buy the adapter.
I did see another farm mount some brackets to the rear toolbars to lift their 3 point toolbar with jang seeders. Looks like a neat setup. Attached a few photos.
Glad it sounds like it can handle the weight.

Re: Farmall 140 rear lift weight limit
There might be a pdf of a 140 operators manual in the pdf manual section here on farmallcub.com.
You might check there for that!
I know my cub owners manual has a published lift capacity for the fast-hitch platform carrier.
I saw that lower pic you attached.
I put the same pic in the cub section so people could see the way the three point hitch was done on that tractor.

Re: Farmall 140 rear lift weight limit
The platform carrier is rated 575# when on a 140. I think this is based more on safe handling than lifting capacity. The carrier itself adds another 120#. Keep in mind that load capacity depends on how far back the center of the load is.

Re: Farmall 140 rear lift weight limit
I have a sprayer that my dad built out of unistrut years ago. The frame holds a blue 55 gal drum so thats 440lbs when full give or take. Add 10ft doubled up unistrut on each side for the booms and thats 50ish lbs for each. So thats 560lbs. The booms rotate 90° to the rear when not in use which increases the total weight. All that said id put my total weight to 600lbs when you include the hardware, hoses, spray nozzles, ect. All this on single point fast hitch.
IMO i think you'll be fine.
