If I take voltage regulator off and coil. What’s my chances of getting the generator off. Without taking hood off,

I have tried many jobs early on by not taking the hood off.

It is far less frustrating to do most jobs by taking the hood off. It is not that hard and it will be a faster total job time in most cases.

You do have to watch for project creep: "Well while the hood is off I should...."

Way simpler to remove the hood….the hardest part is draining the fuel. Use a pump or disconnect fuel line and have a LARGE container with a funnel if your tank full!! Sure would be nice if it was mounted outside the hood….

You shouldn't have to drain the tank ,just shut the valve off and disconnect the supply line. And if you have someone to help lift it off and on , that's the way to go. Much easier to work on with the tank off.

That is the catch. The hood/tank is fairly manageable for one person if the tank is nearly empty. An extra 30 or 40 pounds of gas makes it a bit much. My gas tanks are close to empty most of the time, totally empty usually happens at the far end of the property.

Bingo that why I said drain the gas because at 6 lbs per gallon and sloshing around it make life more challenging.

yeah while the hood is off... that's how my "frame off" restoration started. 18 months later a pretty tractor came out, and a wife patient enough for pretty red parts to occupy the basement while the work was progressing....
