Vent Hole for rear end 72 IHC cub

Postby jim5644 » Thu Aug 24, 2023 5:39 pm

Hey guys,

Appreciate it if anyone could tell me if there is a vent hole on the rear end of a 1972 IHC Cub tractor. According to what I was told all rear ends have a vent hole in them.

Need to know if it has a vent hole and if so where is it located.

Thanks for the help and the forum.

Jim

The fill plug behind the shifter should have a hole in it for the transmission. You might want to check to see if it is open with a small wire.
I don’t think the final drives has a vent.

I may be wrong, but I believe only the STEERING housing has the vented plug.

True. The transmission/differential is sufficiently vented through the unsealed shifter tower.

The 72 cub i sold last year was vented. Maybe the owner before me drilled it.

I think there is a vent hole or weep plug on the Pto adapter, there is a vent plug on the hub city 22 reversed reducer.

If you have a hole on your PTO adapter, it is probably where a PRESS-IN grease zerk is supposed to be:

I did check the fill plug today and there is no vent hole in it. I bought the Cub new and picked it up at their distribution center not from a dealer so assume it is correct. Appreciate the ideas and any other ideas.

Hey John,

I mounted a IHC C-2 mower under the belly of the tractor and use it to cut about 3 1/2 acres of so called yard with it.
Some years ago there used to be a fair amount of people using the Cubs and Cub lowboy for cutting large areas of grass. Don't see it much anymore.
I also have a big disc plow but have not used it much.
It is a real shame that they don't make things as solid as they used to.

Sorry I don't know how to post pictures to the website.

Best to you and yours.

Most likely a drain hole to release built up fluids, like the one in the clutch housing.
