Intro and Question!

Hello my name is Rob and me and my dad purchased
our first Cub about 3 weeks ago..
According to the #'s its a "1948" it doesnt have the woods
mower, i think its a "IH" sturdy one at that ..

It doesnt smoke, the engine sounds great to me..
But when im mowing my field it bogs down on some of the thick
grass?????

As far as the history on the Cub, i do now that it hasnt
been used alot in the past several years..
Supposebly the guy that owned it for the past 15 years or
so only used for about 6-10 hrs a year????
The mower blades are in good shape also..

Any suggestion would be appreciated...

Mongo, If you haven't already done so, most of the guys here will tell you to get the manuals for your cub and read them. The owner's manual, service manual and parts catalog are invaluable. Binder Books is a good place to order them. You may initially think they are expensive, but trust me, they will pay for themselves.
In the meanwhile, peruse this site and it's links. You will find a link to Rudi's manual site which has the manuals online. We recommend that you use them until your manuals arrive.
The fellows here will help you through just about any problem you may encounter.

Cubs are great for finish mowing but they don't have the power to "bush hog".
It is my experience that if the grass is taller than the front tires you will have to make "half passes" to get it mowed.
If you have a C-3 mower, which is 60 inches wide, then sharp blades are a must!

Thanks for the welcome and advice..

My field never gets anywhere close to being
over the front wheels..
Id say when i was having problems it was about 6-7 inches
tall and very thick in places..

I used it yesterday and today and the field was shorter
than that and it did great..
I think the fact that it hadnt been run much was
part of the problem..
Anyway thanks again and glad theres a place for people
who love Cub's

Mongo, you didn't say what size your mower is. I assume it is the 59 inch rather than 42 inch. If so it is a pretty good load, and really think grass will bog it down. Also the deck should be 1/4 to 1/2 inch lower in the front than the back to avoid cutting the grass twice.

The mower measures at 45 inches..
Thanks for the advice on setting the mower shorter
in front..
I beleive thats how dad has it set, he grew up
around tractors but this is my first..
Well except for the Ford we had breifly growing up,
but it never ran much
