E15 or higher fuel

Postby John *.?-!.* cub owner » Fri Jan 17, 2014 8:36 pm

Not trying to start a debate here. Just wanted pt pass on a note from Stihl that came in an email from them.

"The Problem with High Ethanol Gasoline

Most people know about the different octane grades of gasoline, but now there is another element to consider: Ethanol. STIHL equipment was made to run on fuel containing no more than 10 percent ethanol. Until recently, almost all gasoline sold has been E10 (10% ethanol) or less. Some gas pumps are beginning to offer higher ethanol blends, from E15 to E85 (85% ethanol). These fuels will damage your STIHL equipment and may void your limited warranty when used. So be sure to look before you pump!"
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

John, A friend of mine just bought a new Husqvarna. They insist you use their premixed gas which adds up to about $10 per gallon.

But... Stihl doesn't insist that you use it. Of course it could just be the Husky dealer trying to make a few extra bucks. :D

The biggest problem with ethanol is it makes an engine run lean which will cause more heat. Most small engine manufactures are recommending 89-octane E10 rather than 87-octane. The higher the octane the slower the fuel burn…which supposedly causes less heat.

I would ask the chain saw dealer which fuel station in town they would recommend ….they know where the fuel failures problems are coming from.

I can still get gas with no alcohol. That's all I use in the cub and my Sthil equipment. The last time I paid $4.03 a Gal.

I've always used 90 octane in my Stihl equipment.
