Unfortunately, no.
You can get a range by referencing the data base to see where the engine s/n falls as well as checking the other major castings for their casting dates. But you will only get close.

Below are listings at TM Tractor showing what the serial number plates originally looked like.

They sometimes get painted over by someone, or fade, and can't be read.
The styles of the plates changed some over the years.

The plate originally showed the tractor model also.
If you can't read the plate anymore, you can probably tell from the position of the stamped in serial number, and engine maximum RPM, which style of plate it is.

I think that my Cub is a 57. The first 2 numbers in the VIN are worn off but the last numbers are 4379 J. The block has
a casting # 2-14-C, 251341R7, head 1-11-C 251228-R1,hydro unit 2-1-C 360719-R1, bellhousing L-2-X 351686-R2.
I think all this makes it a 1957 at the very end of the year or Feb 1958. Would it be called a 57 or 58? Thanks

My best guess is that the VIN should be 204379 J at the very end of 1967 production. What do you think? Thanks

Hi,
The L 2 X on the clutch housing is not a date code.

The date code on the clutch housing is the style of the other date codes, and is usually partly behind the clutch pedal.

The 1957 Cub serial numbers were 198231 - 204388. If it is a 1957 Cub, the only 4379 it could be is 204379.
It is a 1957 Cub, if it is 204379.

You can look through the Cub Database, on page 1 of this post, and see what you can find there.
You can compare the engine serial number with the engine serial numbers in the Database also.
If it has the original engine, the number should be sort of close to the others in the Database.

Is this tractor a Lo-Boy? Everything you posted would agree with a '57 Lo-Boy, including the reported 4-digit serial number.

The 1957 Cub LoBoys were serial numbers 3929 - 6581, it shows at the top of the page, at Cub Info.

Not a Low Boy. It has the tall skeleton wheels, 7.2x30, on the rear. It was a local tractor used for cultivating shade tobacco. Deluxe seat, low exhaust to get under the netting.
