Re: Gears Grinding
It should require a little force. I use a short piece of threaded that will go inside it with a nut and flat washer and a hammer to tap it in. As to your transmission shaft being bent, you need to support it on the end and turn it, or use a straight edge on it.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Re: Gears Grinding
Chris, make sure before you reassemble the torque tube to the engine that this bushing does not drag on your mainshaft or you will have trouble grinding when going into gear. There are specs for shaft to bushing clearance. I’m not sure what the specs are but they may be here on the forum. Do a search or maybe someone else will chime in with them. The bushing diameter gets smaller when installing it into the crankshaft just a few thousanths. Hate to see you have to split it again.

Pulled this from my post " pilot bushing too tight" when I went through my new pilot bushing fiasco...
Criswell wrote:
The ID of the bushing quoted on page 25 of the GSS-1008 Specification Manual lists the OD of the pilot end of the driveshaft as 0.621" to 0.622" with a running clearance in the pilot bushing of 0.004" to 0.006". The ID of the bushing after installation should be 0.626" to 0.627",
Cant stress enough, make sure it is not too tight ( and lube it up)

Re: Gears Grinding
Put some grease on the end of the shaft before putting together. That will help. If I pull one apart it always gets grease. I had one I though the clutch was goin bad. Greased the shaft after some transmission work and most of my.problems was solved.
