Throttle issue

Gentlemen I am working on my cub again. Today I got the electrical to have spark and I’ve got gas. The cub popped off for around 20 seconds. In that time I tried to throttle up and down but nothing happened and then the cub died. And idea on what might be the culprit? My thought is cool since the carb was just rebuilt. The timing is also off and the cub misfired a few times.

I did not I’m not sure what that means.

When the engine is not running, check the throttle linkage to ensure everything is moving, especially the lever part #11 in the attached drawing. Lubricate all movement points, especially where #11 pivots on the shaft #12. If it is frozen up use caution as the lever is fragile and can be broken by too much pressure. Make sure all of the linkages from throttle to carb are free and the lever arm on the governor is free before you do the governor-to-carb adjustment.

Also double-check that the choke and throttle links are not reversed on the carb.

Thank you gentlemen the linkage definitely needs work. What would be the best way to attack it? I hit it with some wd 40

I would hit it with PB Blaster or kroil and lightly tap it with a hammer. WD 40 is basically a water displacement and has very little, if any, lubricating value.

You have to adjust the linkage. Idle is at the 1/2 way of the throttle lever - you are working with 1/2 the range of the throttle

Definitely need to adjust it. I've got to get the linkage freed up all the way.

Hi,
With the engine off, and throttle lever all the way ahead, like in your video, you shouldn't be able to move the linkage ahead of the carburetor any, it should be tight fully to the rear, which is opening the carb throttle plate.
Something is wrong, the key number 6 in Stan's parts picture above, might be gone, or something else wrong.
You should be able to feel the resistance when pushing the throttle lever ahead, it is stretching the spring at the governor when you move the lever ahead.
Your video isn't showing in from the left side enough to see the linkage near the governor where key number 6 would be. Another video would be good, with plenty of light, and then move the linkage, like you did.
You have to remove the pin number 3, and the 2 bolts holding 5 onto the engine, to pull 5 and shaft 30 out of number 8.
The yoke number 2 is screwed onto rod 1 too far also.

Thank you glen! I'll check the email I took the rod out and the half moon key was still in place. I tried to re adjust the linkage and having the same problem. What should I do next?

Next I would check and see if the keyway in part number 8 in the parts picture is worn.
It is sort of common for the keyway to wear.
That is a lot of looseness you showed in the video.
It can't work right with that much looseness forward and back.
There should be no play in the joint where the key 6 is.
The key can wear too, and need replacing.
If it is loose there, you might be able to put in a shim of some kind to tighten it.

The cast piece of 8 is held onto the shaft part of 8 by a pin, it might be worn or gone, look at that too.
The 2 pieces come made together, as far as I know, if you need to replace it.
The governor has to be taken apart to put it in.
