Fast Hitch Platform Carrier Quickie “restoration”
As discovered by other members on my intro thread, the box blade that came with my lowboy cub is actually an upside down and backwards platform carrier. I decided to put it back to original, as I would rather have that than a redundant extra blade, that was kind of kludged together in the first place. I got it disassembled, sanded, primed and painted this afternoon. Tomorrow I hope to get a chance to pick up some boards and black paint for them.

What type of wood do you plan to use?
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

I’m just planning on pressure treated from the home of depot.

Pressure treated lumber should be aged, to allow it to dry thoroughly before it is painted. Most suggest 6 months.

Have to appreciate the ingenuity of the previous owner who came up with using the platform carrier as a frame for a box blade.

I think Oak was used and treated with coats of boiled linseed oil.

I opted for regular old non-treated construction lumber. Oak would be nice, but there are budgetary priorities. Latex exterior paint is going on top. I tried some of that non-skid sand stuff in the paint.

When I get back into showing a Cub, I think I’ll go with oak and finish it with spar urethane. Sometimes have to unload a little ways from the show site. They way my wife will be able to ride instead of walking. No, she’s not real big on doing the driving. lol
Currently I used treated lumber and left it as is

Re: Fast Hitch Platform Carrier Quickie “restoration”
I have seen a platform carrier with original wood. It was a softwood, probably pine. It appeared to be finished with a black stain, not paint. Part numbers were stenciled in white.

Re: Fast Hitch Platform Carrier Quickie “restoration”
Thanks for the notes on originality. My instincts are always in that direction, so I really do appreciate that information. I went with non-skid paint for the boards and really like how it turned out, should give a little extra purchase for whatever I choose to pile on there. Got to get some new hardware tomorrow, but here’s basically how it looks.

Re: Fast Hitch Platform Carrier Quickie “restoration”
The carriers could be ordered with or without the wood. So I guess a case could be made that a lot of choices are "original".
