Got the 49 almost complete. Have to replace the exhaust pipe. It would have put the muffler a little closer to the hood than I like. The fuel shut off is leaking at the handle, will have to repair that. Flushed the radiator with 1/2 vinegar 1/2 water, now to flush with water before putting anti-freeze in it. Good new is the transmission is quiet and brakes work good. Put two new front tires on it and a nice set of 9.5s on the rear.
Thanks to Bob McCarty for the piece to repair the hood.
Now onto the Massey 65 I just got.

Hi,
The Cub looks good in your pictures.
You may be able to stop the leaking at the fuel strainer shut off valve without much work.
The nut the stem goes through on the original style strainers have a packing inside, tighten the nut slightly, and it may stop leaking.
Don't tighten it too tight, the handle can be hard to turn.
It's easier to get to the strainer if you move the Touch Control arms to the rear or down position before working there.
If you replaced the steering gear seals, it should work with 90 wt gear oil in it.

I ended up using 85/140 in the steering box because that is what I had. I went to the local TSC's, Rural Kings and the place where I buy my mower parts, no 00 grease to be found.

You can also try adding a few rounds of packing to the valve stem if the leak does not stop. Waxed dental floss works for the packing.
