How to Read IH Casting Dates

Postby w30bob » Sat Apr 28, 2018 7:27 pm

Hi Guys,

The casting date on my final drives is 4-19-A. How do you decipher that? I thought I saw a description of how to read casting dates somewhere, but now I can't remember.

thanks,
bob

Hi,
Below is info from TM Tractor, the first link shows where the casting codes are, and the 2nd link has the table with the years.

http://www.tmtractor.com/id/castdate_loc.htm

http://www.tmtractor.com/id/id_004.htm

The clutch housing date code is usually partly behind the clutch pedal.

An A code is 1955, if it is that decade of casting, A was used later also.

Casting code letter A could be 1955 or 1977. The numbers indicate April 19th. Your profile indicates a 59 Cub so IMO you should check other casting dates to determine if the final drives might have been changed (that's a pretty common parts swap). Your other casting codes might agree with the 1959 which is letter E. A complete table is on TM web site or click on Cub Info at the top of this page.

Hi Guys,

Sorry, I need to update my profile.........that casting code is off my 1976 Cub finals. It's a later casting as it doesn't have the part number on the other side of the inner face........it just has the little IH symbol.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Guys,

Just checked the SN lookup on here and it says my Cub is a '77 and not a '76. I looked up the SN on another site and it said '76.

Thanks,
Bob

Sounds like you have a factory "longstripe" Cub with the square nose. That correct? Would love to see pictures.
