If your replacing your pilot bushing you probably have a leaking rear seal unless it’s been fixed before and a huge mess to begin with, what’s a little grease mess? If you have touch control you also have all the fluid from removing the lines to deal with as well. Don’t forget to check the fit of the ID of the new bushing and the OD of the shaft AFTER installation or you’ll be splitting it again.
...I don't think I have any fuss about grease, I have grease on grease most of the time , if someone else has an issue, I figure thats their business none of mine..As far as pilot bushings go, its a small job so personally when I get one with a clutch package I change it...The one I just did looked fine and came out in 3 pieces...And awhile back I had the same thing...I drained the TC and don't recall having any fluid on the floor...Lets see what else did you question, Oh yeah it wasn't a question about how to install or check a pilot bushing , it was a post giving information, if any body wanted it, concerning using bread as a replacement for the grease so you can assume I probably know how to change a pilot bushing...But thanks for your concern...In so far as splitting a tractor ( I have more than one, they get regular use btw), I really don't have an issue with that ...If I make a mistake or have a faulty part , I fix it, non one else does... simple..But thanks for all your questions... Hope I answered them..Dave :tractor:..Oh yeah if you need help with a leaking rear main, check with Tim ( tst ) ... he can machine one for you that works great and you won't have a problem with your seal leaking...If you need any other help give a shout... :thanx:

Thanks for the clarification on everything. Yes, tst (Tim) machines the rear main and puts a new seal in cheaper than you can find it anywhere else or do it yourself!

I just used this bread trick to remove my pilot bushing, and it worked like a champ!! A couple of good whacks, and it was out! Thanks for the tip Dave!!
