"new" Cub

Postby BenJack9903 » Mon Jun 18, 2018 7:34 am

My "new" cub. The cultivators in the back have been bent/pushed to the right and hit the fender. Any ideas on getting them off the fender besides heating them up and "adjusting" them?

I think the horizontal bar is a little longer than normal maybe you could slide it in and cut half inch off each end. But you better wait for more suggestions.

It might just be the angle of the view of the second picture but looks like the right side tool bar is angled out more than it should be.

It's not the angle of the picture. It is. How do I straighten it?

Heat and a sledge hammer. Take it off first.

An" F" shaped tool with a long handle makes for good torque.
A long piece of decent diameter round stock ,and two pieces of thick flat stock spaced just far enough apart and welded to the roundstock to fit over the stock you are bending.. Heat your stock red ,and bend. Have an attribute gauge made of whatever you choose that matches the angle of the good piece(other tool bar side/cultivator mount , but reversed) so you have for an angle pattern to get the most out of a single heat.

The lifting mechanism for the rear cultivators is from another model tractor. Here's the correct rig.

I don't think your tool bars are bent, I think the entire cultivator is not for a Cub. The front tool bars are much too long also. Remove the entire set up. Check the numbers and compare them to the 144 manual. You have enough posts to download the manual you need. Welcome to the site, good luck with your Cub.

I must be missing something here. The front teeth are from elsewhere. But the rest, although misassembled, looks proper to me, I agree with pulling down the Cub-144 manual and studying it for proper assembly and adjustments before attempting to bend anything. Tool bars are heavy and not easily bent. Make sure the bearings that attach the tool bars to the final drive housings are not damaged or improperly installed.

The horizontal rear lift bar is too wide and the lift rods don't match.

Hi,
Below are pics from TM Tractor of a cultivator, and lift parts. There are pics of it on a Cub on the lower part of the page. You can see the length of the lifting bar there. :)

Below are pages from the Cub 144 Cultivator owner's manual, showing the rear lift bar. The manual has parts listings also.

Below is the whole Cub 144 Cultivator owner's manual, this is the 1950 manual.

I can see what you mean on the length of the lifting bar -- probably homemade. The pressure rods are adjusted so much different from each other that can't say if there is any difference between the individual parts. The upper brackets may be mounted opposite orientation from each other. I also notice now that the bearings for the tool bars are backwards and/or reversed. The holes for the bars extend towards the center of the tractor rather than below the final drive housings.

I'll vote again for getting the manual and reassembling it properly. Then see what still looks bent or what homemade parts are too far off to use.
