LoBoy float level
Does anyone know how to measure the proper float level for a '60 Cub LoBoy carb? This float sits vertical, not horizontal like most.
Thanks,
Ken C.
Thanks,
Ken C.
My cylinder index just reached 80! with the aquisition of my new Lo Boy.

Ken:
First, to the greatest forum on the internet, and to the Cub Family. You will find that all the folks on this forum are kind, helpful and just full of Cub info and knowledge. They also happen to be the finest folks I have ever met
The answer for your question is well answered in the link Maintenance Tips and Techniques below which will take you to Lurker Carl's Carb Fixes. Excellent set of articles that anyone playing with the IH 3/4 Updraft needs to read
Ok, so here is the spiel :
I would suggest that you read this thread: New Members and Visitors, Please READ Prior to Posting. There are many great links to informative pages such as the ATIS FAQ's 1 and ATIS FAQ's 2, The Best of H.L. Chauvin who has written very interesting articles on troubleshooting common problems with your Cub.
Also, you might want to visit the Cub Manual Server as there is tons of info on servicing, maintaining and re-building your Cub. In addition to this basic information, there are also a number of other useful tools available on the server. There is the Specialty Services page which has contact info for neat stuff like getting your seats recovered, buying quality Decals, Serial Number tags and a host of other neat items. Also there are the Parts Pages - both Used Parts Suppliers and New Parts Suppliers pages with links to quality dealers. I am always looking for YOUR favourite dealers for New and Used Parts to include here. These are intended to complement the businesses who support FarmallCub.com Website.
I would also recommend that you visit Binder Books and purchase the three most important manuals you can own for Maintenance, Repair and Rebuilding your Cub. These are the Owner's Manual, the GSS-1411 Service Manual and the TC-37F Parts Manual. Although they are available on the Cub Manual Server, it is better is you also have your own paper copy. Binder Books is the only Authorized IH Publication Reprint House and they have the best quality manuals available. Most other's are not of the same quality. Just a personal thought here, the I&T Shop Manuals, although helpful in some areas, really are not sufficient for the job. If you wish though, they are good additional reference works.
IF you really want to get the skinny on all things Cub, might I suggest you get a copy of Ken Updike's Farmall Cub and Cub Cadet's . Along with Guy Fay's Letter Series Originality Guide, these are two must have's in anyone's collection.
In addition to the above information, don't forget to check out the various articles that are available to help with your Repair, Restore, Rebuild or just your Maintenance Projects. There are a number of sub pages such as Electrolysis or Rust Zapper's, Maintenance Tips, Jigs and Techniques, Implement and Part Sketches and of course the Paint, Decals & Other Finish Questions which has the Paint Chart and the Paint Committee Decisions links.
I truly hope that you enjoy your Cub and that you will be a frequent contributor to the forum. Again, to the Cub Family

float level check, LoBoy
Thanks Chad for the very nice welcome.
I do have both the original owner's and maint. manuals that came with this tractor, plus the IT manual. I also previously visited many of the links you highlighted for me, with no answer to my question. If indeed Luker Carl's Cub Carb Fixes has this info, my new eMac does not have Microsoft Internet Explorer, so that info just showed up as a solid black block on my screen. I just wanted you to know I did try before I posted my question, not only here, but on Yesterdays Tractors Forum also. I will try to get my son to help me get Internet Explorer, if thats what I need to view Luker Carl's page. Thanks again,
Ken C.

Ken,
I took the liberty of saving the pertinent slides as adobe pdf files. If you have Acrobat reader you should be able to open these. I also included a copy of the instrucions that come with the IH rebuild kit.

I hope this is ok with everyone.

I also use an eMac computer which I purchased in February, 2005. Safari is the browser of choice on the computer. However, Explorer is available (on the computer) by clicking Applications and then Explorer.
I get the same black pictures of Lurker Carl's project as you when I use Safari. However, I can bring up the project with Explorer.
However, I should mention that Explorer is becoming rather inconsistent when I use it. It often shuts down in the middle of what I am trying to do.
One of the "tech reps." in the Mac store in Nashville, Tennessee, where I purchased the eMac told me that Microsoft is no longer updating Explorer for Macs.
Hope this helps.

Rudi,
I used a free pdf printer to convert the files. You install it on your PC just like a printer. Then you pull up what ever you want, do a print preview, then when you print, choose the pdf printer instead of your normal printer. It will then open a dialog box asking for the file name and where you would like to save it. It works good and the price was right. You have to look at an ad every time you use it though. For $20.00 (US) I think you can buy it and make the ads go away. The best thing it works with any program that has a print command.

Oh, I am not worried about the pdf print function. I have Adobe.... I just don't have the time at the moment to convert all the files to pdf format.
I think I am going to resize before I do that though..
I am thinking on it....

Thanks for helping me find the information I had such a hard time shearching for. The pdf files worked fine for me, & I was able to print out what I needed. Tell me this tho, are there certain questions that a person should'nt ask on this forum? This being my first post, I can't help feeling like I did something wrong. I am a 68 year old who got bitten by the tractor bug after retirement, & try my best with the computer, but I do struggle from time to time.
Thanks again for your understanding & concern.

Ken C.:
As far as I know all Cub questions are welcome and usually one of the helpful people here has "been there and done that". In my opinion, these forums are the best help when working on a tractor anyone can find. Several years ago I was restoring a Super A that my dad used on our tobacco farm for years. I was new to the internet and old tractors at the time, and was amazed at how quick I got the answers I needed from strangers all over the country, and sometimes the world. After a while, you know everybody, even though you've never met in person.
A lot of times the only "tractor time" I get it in a week is when I check the forum here. One thing that is really nice here is you never get a smart a$$ answer to your question. It is like the old cliche I tell my students at school, always ask your question because someone else probably has the same one. I just hate you had trouble finding the information you needed. I can't see the slide shows on my PC when I use Firefox instead of IE.
Rudi:
Thanks for all your work in making so much information available. I can appreciate the time it takes to get everything formatted. When you asked "can I use it?" I thought you meant how did I convert them. I didn't realize you had Acrobat. If you want to copy them, have at it. I wasn't sure if you had the rebuild kit instructions on the cub server or not. Thanks again,
Daniel

Ken: I don't think that you should be concerned about asking questions. Many forum members, and this certainly includes me, had our first involvement with Cubs following retirement. We don't have years of background knowledge about tractors to bring to the forum so we ask questions. I sometimes feel that I am the only one who doesn't know the answer to my question. In reality, other people do learn because I ask questions, just as I became more familiar about setting float levels because of your question. Questions are encouraged and forum members are willing to share their knowledge. Dan

Hi & Welcome Ken C.
Glad to have you on board. I saw your post about asking questions.
I too just retired and got the bug, CUB bug, that is. Old rust parts,
plows and such. Grease eveywhere, and torn apart CUB(s). I learned
long ago that there are no stupid questions. Only questions that need
answers. If you can think up a question someone on here has
had it happen to them, only if they would admit to it.
I have been on this board for about 3-4 years now and have met many
on here. You will find that this is the most helpful and friendly bunch
around. Someone on here can answer every question that you might
have. So, you go ahead and ask and don't wonder. OK, OK.
